Our Mission

Our Mission & Vision Seeking truth. Finding wisdom. Growing in virtue. San José Sánchez Del Río Catholic School makes excellence in academic education available to all families, renewing Catholic education by returning to tradition. SJSDR is a Classical Catholic elementary school founded in order to instill in students a love of the Catholic Faith, and an insatiable curiosity in seeking truth and wisdom. At SJSDR, we seek to pass on to our students the beautiful achievements of Western Civilization, while helping them to discover the gifts that God has given each of them - gifts that will prepare them for a life filled with purpose and accomplishment; a life that will give witness to faith in action.

About Our School

At SJSDR teachers strive to help our students Know, love and serve God, Achieve academic success, Develop their God-given talents, Develop moral and civic virtues, Become upstanding citizens in their community. Offering classes for grades K-8, SJSDR provides students an academically rigorous study of reading, writing, math, science, Latin, history and geography through lessons and activities that help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become life-long learners and critical thinkers. They are taught to write with beautiful penmanship, they learn public speaking skills (traditionally known as rhetoric) and they study classical art & music. Through daily Mass and catechism classes students learn about the Catholic Faith. Daily life at SJSDR is grounded in Catholic morality and culture as we live the traditions of the Catholic Faith to the fullest. We offer multi-graded classes with a Classical curriculum in which classic literature (known as the Great Books) forms the backbone of all our studies. Books such as Homer’s Odyssey, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia fill our students’ minds and imaginations with ageless lessons in human nature and the world. Our program gives our students the opportunity to help each other and to develop invaluable leadership skills. Students work at a pace that best fits their strengths and struggles - working ahead of grade-level or spending extra time learning a skill, as necessary for their engagement and to ensure their constant academic growth. We seek to accomplish this by creating a challenging academic environment with individualized and intensive instruction in their basic studies. See what happens when you expect more!
