Position Opening: Upper School Instructor

Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia

The Summit Academy is an independent Catholic classical school for students in grades 6–12. The Summit seeks a new Upper School Instructor in Mathematics and across disciplines for the 2026–2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will value the Liberal Arts and view education as the formation of young people ordered toward what is true, good, and beautiful, and ultimately toward Christ. We seek to hire the best long-term fits for the institution.

Faculty at The Summit serve as both teachers and mentors within a close-knit school community. Background in philosophy or classical languages is valued. Teachers are expected to model an active Catholic faith and to participate in student life through mentoring, athletics, outdoor programs, and service activities. Experience in coaching or athletics is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Teach at least four courses; serve as a mentor and role model to students; preference for Mathematics experience within Phillips Exeter Curriulum
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the school’s mission and vision, curriculum standards, and learning objectives
• Foster each student’s academic, personal, and spiritual growth through instruction advising, mentorship, and constructive feedback
• Embody partnership with families, including through Quarterly Reviews
• Report to Director of Faculty and participate in faculty meetings, professional development, curriculum integration, and school life

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree reflected in compensation
• Substantial teaching experience with exceptions granted for outstanding candidates who demonstrate a record of effective leadership in a relevant field
• Most essentially, the applicant must also possess a love of teaching and a passion for mentoring and a desire to continue in their own learning
