Position Summary
Stella Maris Academy seeks a dedicated and adaptable Permanent Substitute Teacher for our combined 7th/8th grade classroom beginning immediately through June 30, 2026. This individual will serve as a consistent daily presence on campus—teaching when assigned and providing instructional or operational support at other times.
This role is ideal for a mission-driven educator who thrives in dynamic environments, values the classical Catholic tradition, and desires to contribute meaningfully to a close-knit school community.
The Permanent Substitute reports to campus daily and serves as the primary classroom instructor when needed or as a support professional under the direction of the administration and faculty.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Classroom Leadership
• Teach Theology, Latin, English Language Arts, History, and Logic for grades 7–8 as assigned.
• Implement lesson plans provided by faculty or developed collaboratively with the academic team.
• Maintain a well-ordered, joyful, and virtue-centered learning environment.
Support & Collaboration
• Seamlessly shift between teaching assignments, student supervision, and faculty support as daily needs arise.
• Collaborate with administration and colleagues regarding student progress, instructional priorities, and school-wide initiatives.
• Assist with planning and leading field trips and special learning activities.
Professionalism & Student Care
• Demonstrate excellent communication, attentiveness to student needs, and confidentiality.
• Complete required documentation related to student learning, behavior, or classroom activities.
• Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and formation in classical pedagogy.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• 3–5 years of experience working with children, preferably in a school or behavioral health setting.
• Experience with classical education or integrated humanities instruction preferred.
Skills & Attributes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated classroom management ability.
• Calm, thoughtful decision-making in unexpected or emergent situations.
• Ability to collaborate joyfully and work in a mission-driven Catholic environment.
Requirements
• Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting.
• Negative TB test (current).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
