School Profile

St. Monica Catholic School is a PreK-12 Catholic classical school located on Mercer Island, just east of Seattle, Washington. Our curriculum model, based on the Educational Plan of St. Jerome, immerses students in the beauty of Western civilization and the Catholic intellectual tradition. We are a parish school and bring students into the sacramental and liturgical life of St. Monica Catholic Church. Our grades 9-12 program was founded as a pilot in 2020 and was accredited in the fall of 2023. The program limits student cohorts to 12-15 members and emphasizes intellectual friendship through Socratic and Harkness seminars.

Ideal Candidate

St. Monica Catholic School is seeking a compassionate, faith-filled, and collaborative full-time School Counselor to serve students in grades K–12. The school counselor plays a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and developmental well-being of all students and serves as an integral member of the school’s administrative team. The ideal candidate will possess experience working with students with diverse learning needs, a worldview informed by Catholic anthropology, and a background in educational assessments. St. Monica is interested in both experienced educators and those with a passion for young people and a willingness to pursue growth in the profession through regular coaching, professional development, and appropriate further study. The administration is committed to supporting both early career and veteran counselors in their vocation.

Primary Responsibilities

·       Teach developmentally appropriate guidance lessons across all grade levels (PK–8)

·       Facilitate “lunch bunch” groups and other small group support opportunities

·       Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ social-emotional growth

·       Work with students of diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs, helping to create inclusive and supportive learning environments

·       Collaborate closely with the administrative team, faculty, and families to support student success

·       Lead the development and implementation of Student Support Plans (SSPs) in collaboration with teachers, families, and administration, ensuring clear goals and actionable strategies

·       Monitor student progress using academic and behavioral data, adjusting plans as needed to support growth

·       Serve as a key point of communication, supporting teachers and partnering with families to ensure consistent, effective support for each student

·       Partner with the Admin Team and the Mercer Island School District (MISD) to review assessments, monitor student progress, and develop appropriate interventions and supports

·       Provide professional development for faculty in areas related to social-emotional learning and student wellness

·       Offer coaching and guidance to teachers to assist them in supporting student needs within the classroom

·       Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality in accordance with school policies

·       Additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Successful applicants will embody St. Monica Catholic School’s commitment to Christian intellectual, spiritual and moral formation in accord with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. They should meet or exceed the following requirements:

·       Practicing Catholic committed to the mission and values of Catholic education

·       Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field preferred

·       One or more years of experience in school counseling (PK–8 experience preferred)

·       Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning, and best practices in supporting diverse learners

·       Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

·       Empathetic, proactive, creative, and collaborative approach to student support

·       Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build strong relationships with students, families, and staff

·       Complete Virtus safe environment training and a background check

Physical Requirements:

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as:

Functioning in classroom space – walking, sitting, standing, reaching
Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing
Must be able to stand for up to two hours instructing a classroom of learners
Must be able to lift up to 25lbs on a frequent basis
Benefits Information:

·        Salary based upon education and experience. Compensation range from $60,000-$85,000

·        Medical, dental, and life insurance through the Archdiocese of Seattle

·        In-building child/dependent tuition support

·        Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
