St. Monica Catholic School is a PreK-12 Catholic classical school located on Mercer Island, just east of Seattle, Washington. Our curriculum model, based on the Educational Plan of St. Jerome, immerses students in the beauty of Western civilization and the Catholic intellectual tradition. We are a parish school and bring students into the sacramental and liturgical life of St. Monica Catholic Church. Our high school program was founded as a pilot in 2020 and received archdiocesan approval and accreditation through the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) in 2023.
Ideal Candidate
St. Monica Catholic School is seeking a principal for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience as a teacher and leader in Catholic elementary and secondary education, a worldview informed by Catholic anthropology, and an interest in classical education.
Responsibilities
· Provide instructional coaching and supervision for approximately 25 teachers.
· Assist with staff hiring and evaluation.
· Lead ongoing curriculum review and evaluation.
· Support student formation and discipline.
· Lead continued high school program development, including curriculum, personnel, student recruitment, and community networking.
· Direct the work of the school while providing opportunities for students’ Catholic and spiritual growth and ministering to students and staff.
· Administer the school’s educational program by supervising teaching, administrative, and support staff; implementing curriculum guidelines and standards; and overseeing all programs and services provided by the school.
· Abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Seattle, and the Office of Catholic Schools.
· Communicate regularly with the Pastor, students, parents, parish and school community, and collaborate with the School Leadership Team and School Commission to accomplish the mission of the school.
· Oversee the development of the school’s financial plan, including monitoring monthly financial statements, creating and managing the annual budget in cooperation with the PAA and parish bookkeeper, and developing long-range financial plans, including fundraising and endowment programs.
· Ensure the development and implementation of a vision for Christian leadership at St. Monica; integrate Gospel values into the learning environment; ensure a curriculum that fosters knowledge of the Catholic faith, honors students’ stages of faith development, and promotes ethical decision-making; and provide opportunities for student liturgical celebrations.
· Ensure retreats and other faith-formation opportunities are available for faculty, staff, and students.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Successful applicants will embody St. Monica Catholic School’s commitment to Christian intellectual, spiritual and moral formation in accord with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. They should meet or exceed the following requirements:
· Practicing Catholic required
· A commitment to continue the Catholic Classical Liberal Arts model at St. Monica
· Master’s degree in educational leadership OR Master’s degree in relevant discipline and equivalent educational leadership experience or training
· Possession of a Washington State administrative or teaching credential or willingness and ability to pursue certification
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to form relationships with students, colleagues, parents, outside stakeholders, and the larger St. Monica community
· Ability to manage record keeping for a variety of served students and programs.
· Complete Virtus safe environment training and a background check
· Minimum 3-5 years teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic School setting
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in a classical school environment
· Have sufficient knowledge of the Classical Liberal model of Education
· Are supportive and willing to drive ongoing school renewal through the strengthening of authentic Catholic education
· Are collaborative leaders who evaluate information before making a decision/taking action
· Exude trust and respect among students, faculty, parents, and Councils
· Possess a strong, positive, can-do attitude with a strong bias for action, based on realistic, specific, and attainable goals
· Administrative experience in a school setting
· In addition, the principal is expected to adhere to the minimum requirements for Catechist certification as set forth by the Archdiocese of Seattle. All principal applicants must be screened and approved by the Office of Catholic Schools prior to local interviews with Search committees.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as:
Functioning in classroom space – walking, sitting, standing, reaching
Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing
Must be able to stand for up to two hours instructing a classroom of learners
Must be able to lift up to 25lbs on a frequent basis
Benefits Information:
· Salary based upon education and experience. Compensation ranges from $120,000-150,000
· Moving expenses reimbursement up to $3000 available
