High School Humanities Teacher

Saint Joseph Academy, an independent classical Catholic school in North County San Diego, seeks a passionate and dedicated High School Humanities Teacher for the upcoming academic year. The ideal candidate will inspire students in grades 9-12 through integrated, rigorous instruction rooted in the Western tradition, Catholic faith, and pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
Responsibilities:
• Teach a combination of high school courses in literature (classic and great books), writing/composition, history (Western civilization and U.S.), philosophy, and/or art history
• Foster critical thinking, eloquent expression, and moral formation through Socratic discussion, close reading, and writing-intensive assignments
• Integrate Catholic teachings and virtues into curriculum and classroom culture
• Collaborate with colleagues in a classical liberal arts environment
• Participate in school liturgical life, faculty formation, and extracurricular activities as needed
• Assess student progress thoughtfully and provide constructive feedback
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) in Humanities, English, History, Philosophy, Classics, or related field
• Strong background in classical literature, Western history, and/or philosophy
• Commitment to Catholic education and the mission of forming students intellectually and spiritually
• Teaching credential or equivalent experience preferred; enthusiasm for classical pedagogy essential
• Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills
