Assistant Principal                                                            Location: Denver, CO

Job Description                                                                                                          Start: June 2026

Salary: $75,000-$90,000

The Role

The Assistant Principal participates in the full human formation of students by engaging directly in the mission of discipleship through the spiritual, academic, and human formation of students at Saint John Paul the Great (“JPG”). This position ensures the integrity of school culture by working alongside the Principal and collaborating with the Director of Human Formation to fully integrate the formation of students. The assistant principal oversees faculty and works closely with academic support staff to cultivate the school’s culture of academic excellence.

This position is regular, full-time, exempt and reports to and is evaluated by the Principal.  This is a salaried position requiring a consistent commitment from 7:30 am-3:30 pm (“the school day”) when school is in session. The Assistant Principal will be required to attend key community events (such as Open House, graduations, etc.).

Candidate Profile & Responsibilities

A strong candidate for this role must be a Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church, who assents to the Church’s teachings on all matters, with particular care for those concerning the nature of the human person, sexual ethics and sexual identity.  The candidate shall possess a zeal for the Lord, living the faith in all aspects of life, with an ability to interact comfortably and authoritatively with students in a variety of settings and with collegiality with other JPG faculty and staff.

Responsibilities:

Manage parts of the school day (e.g. arrival/dismissal, lunch, supervision duties)
Assist Principal with:
Curriculum development
Teacher observations
Creation of academic calendar, class schedules, etc.
Plan in-services, faculty meetings, and professional development
Plan all-school events (such as orientation, student-life events)
Regular communication with parents (including Parent Club)
Admissions process
Manage internal calendars (e.g. testing, room reservations, etc.)
With Principal, revise and maintain documents that establish norms of school culture for both students and faculty (e.g. Student Handbook)
Manage assignments for substitute teachers
Assign and oversee faculty and staff supervision responsibilities
Organize Parent/Teacher Conferences
Ensure faculty follow all professional responsibilities including completing scope and sequences, lesson plans, grade posting, timeliness, communication, etc.
Collaborate with internal directors (Director of Human Formation, Director of Student Services, etc.)
Demonstrate a desire to integrate the Catholic faith into all student conversations
Participate in JPG co-curriculars, athletics, school functions, and events, as vocation and family life allow
Participate in the hiring processes for faculty
Other tasks as needed
Teach one class

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
A minimum of 5 years of measurable professional experience related to role responsibilities
Confidence in building out structures and processes; a “self-starting” approach to tasks; a willingness to “run with” tasks and reach out for support and collaboration as necessary
Competency in organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication; particularly proactive communication with parents and students
A “team player” who is willing to actively contribute to the build-out of a successful start-up
