Summary

The Director of Sacred Music will be responsible for developing and overseeing the parish music program, which includes weekend Masses, devotions and special events, as well as forming parishioners to gracefully fulfill liturgical duties. The successful candidate will teach in our Academy and provide direction and music for Academy liturgies and events. This is a full time, exempt position eligible for benefits.

Primary Responsibilities

The Director Sacred Music reports to the Pastor and Head of School. Responsibilities include:

·      Developing the best of the Catholic musical tradition in the context of suburban, parish life.
·      Providing music for the weekend liturgies, devotions and special events.
·      Cultivating the musical abilities of parishioners in general and identified musicians in particular.
·      Hiring outside parish musicians as needed and managing the music budget.
·      Coordinating and scheduling musicians.
·      Developing the musical ability of the children of the parish.
·      Teaching ¼ to ½ time at the Academy (K-8).

The preferred candidate will be/possess:

·      A faithful Catholic in good standing with the Church, whose public and private life reflects the truth and the beauty contained in the music performed and taught.
·      A deep historical and theological understanding of the Mass, and an ability to teach the fundamental elements of the Creed.
·      A clear perception of the purpose of music in liturgies in order to assist parishioners with their spiritual lives.
·      An established prayer life shaped by the Bible, the Sacraments and the Tradition of the Church.
·      Mastery of the organ and/or piano. Master’s degree, or equivalent background knowledge, preferred. Bachelor’s with experience is also acceptable.
·      Experience developing vocalists and choirs.
·      A pioneering spirit.
·      Proven teaching and leadership skills.
·      Admirable interpersonal skills.
