The St. Jerome Institute NOVA is hiring a Natural Philosophy teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year.

We have developed a four-year natural philosophy curriculum that corresponds with the themes of the Core Curriculum in an integrated approach, designed to continually deepen students’ understanding and contemplation of creation while engaging ever more profound questions with ever greater scientific rigor. We do not conceive of natural philosophy merely as abstract “science” but as a legitimate branch of philosophy itself that should be integrated with the other arts and sciences.

The Natural Philosophy seminar makes liberal use of laboratory work focusing on direct observation, experimental design, methodological precision, and the tools of modern science. Students explore the application of mathematics to biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy and environmental studies. While reference material such as diagrams, tables, and charts will play an important role in presenting and cataloging scientific knowledge, the seminar avoids memorization of facts, laws, and labels without context. Writing within the seminar focuses heavily on the skills of observation and description and extends beyond lab write-ups to include reflective, persuasive, and critical essays on the topics discussed. Periodically throughout the seminar, students take trips for advanced fieldwork, laboratory visits, or attendance at science events.

The successful candidate will possess strong philosophical formation combined with rigorous scientific training and background. Prior teaching experience and classroom management skills are strongly preferred.
