Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, Liberal Arts, or related field.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a classroom with both charity and firmness.
- Commitment to the intellectual, spiritual, and moral formation of students.
Preferred
- Teaching certification or licensure.
- Experience teaching middle school literature and writing.
- Experience in classical or Catholic liberal arts education.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Uphold and support the mission, philosophy, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the school.
- Integrate Catholic worldview and virtue formation throughout literature and writing instruction.
- Foster a classroom culture rooted in charity, reverence, wonder, discipline, and respect for the dignity of every student.
- Model Christian virtue and provide a faithful witness to students through word and example.
- Participate in school Masses, prayer, retreats, liturgical celebrations, and faith formation opportunities.
- Collaborate with parents as primary educators in the formation of their children.
- Teach classical and worthy literature that develops moral imagination, critical thinking, and appreciation for truth, goodness, and beauty.
- Guide students in close reading, narration, discussion, memorization, and seminar dialogue.
Introduce students to a broad literary tradition - Help students recognize themes of virtue, sacrifice, redemption, justice, and human dignity within literature.
- Teach writing as an art of clear thinking and truthful expression.
- Develop student competency in grammar and mechanics, composition structure, narration and imitation, descriptive, analytical and persuasive writing
- Employ instructional methods consistent with the Catholic liberal arts tradition.
- Teach with attention to the developmental needs of adolescents and the formation of habits of attention, perseverance, and wonder while fostering a love for learning.
