St. Andrew Catholic School, an independent Catholic classical school serving 240 Pre-K through 12th grade students, is seeking a Middle and High School History Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming academic year.

Located in Helena, Montana, St. Andrew School educates students in a Catholic classical tradition, forming young people in the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty while cultivating academic excellence and virtuous character.

We are seeking a teacher who loves history and the formation of young people, and who desires to teach within a faith-filled, mission-driven academic community.

Position Overview

The History Teacher will teach a variety of middle and high school history courses.

High school courses include:

Montana History
World History
United States History
Government

The teacher will help students develop a deeper understanding of human history, culture, and civic responsibility, integrating historical study with the school’s Catholic and classical educational philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of middle school and high school history courses
  • Prepare engaging lessons that emphasize historical analysis, critical thinking, and clear communication
  • Foster a classroom environment rooted in respect, curiosity, and academic rigor
  • Assess student learning through writing assignments, projects, and examinations
  • Collaborate with fellow faculty to support the classical curriculum
  • Maintain timely communication with parents regarding student progress
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and the life of the school community
  • Model virtuous character and support the spiritual formation of students

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, Political Science, or a related field
  • Montana Class 2 Educator License with a Social Studies endorsement, or the ability to obtain Montana licensure
  • Teaching experience at the middle or high school level
  • Strong content knowledge in Montana History, American History, World History, Civics, and Government
  • Interest in or experience with classical education
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • A commitment to forming students intellectually, morally, and spiritually

Candidates should also:

  • Demonstrate an appreciation for the Catholic intellectual tradition and the classical liberal arts
  • Be willing to integrate faith and reason in the study of history, helping students understand the development of civilization and the role of Christian thought in shaping culture
  • Candidates must successfully complete required background checks and safe environment training.

Compensation

Salary: Beginning at $28,000 but dependent on education and years of experience.
