St. Andrew Catholic School, an independent Catholic classical school serving 240 Pre-K through 12th grade students, is seeking a Middle and High School Latin Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming academic year.

Located in Helena, Montana, St. Andrew School educates students in a Catholic classical tradition, forming young people in the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty while cultivating academic excellence and virtuous character.

We are seeking a teacher who loves Latin, classical languages, and the formation of young people, and who desires to teach within a faith-filled, mission-driven academic community.

Position Overview

The Latin Teacher will teach a variety of middle and high school Latin courses.

High School Courses may include:

Latin I
Latin II
Latin III
Latin IV
Advanced Latin

Latin is a core subject at St. Andrew Catholic School and is required of all students. The Latin teacher plays a central role in the classical curriculum, helping students develop a deeper understanding of language, logic, grammar, and the intellectual foundations of Western civilization.

The teacher will guide students in reading and translating classical texts while fostering an appreciation for the language, culture, and thought of the classical world, integrated within the school’s Catholic and classical educational philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of middle and high school Latin courses
  • Prepare engaging lessons that emphasize grammar, translation, reading comprehension, and classical language study
  • Foster a classroom environment rooted in respect, curiosity, and academic rigor
  • Assess student learning through translation exercises, written work, quizzes, and examinations
  • Collaborate with fellow faculty to support the classical curriculum
  • Maintain timely communication with parents regarding student progress
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and the life of the school community
  • Model virtuous character and support the spiritual formation of students

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Classics, Latin, Classical Languages, or a related field
  • Montana Class 2 Educator License with appropriate endorsement, or the ability to obtain Montana licensure
  • Strong background in Latin language and classical texts
  • Teaching experience at the middle or high school level
  • Ability to teach multiple levels of Latin, including advanced coursework
  • Interest in or experience with classical education
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • A commitment to forming students intellectually, morally, and spiritually

Candidates should also:

  • Demonstrate an appreciation for the Catholic intellectual tradition and the classical liberal arts
  • Be able to integrate the study of Latin with the broader classical curriculum, helping students understand the roots of Western civilization, Catholic thought, and the development of language and culture

Candidates must successfully complete required background checks and safe environment training.

Compensation

Salary: Beginning at $31,000 but dependent on education and years of experience.
