St. Andrew Catholic School, an independent Catholic classical school serving Pre-K through 12th grade students, is seeking a High School Literature Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming academic year.
Located in Helena, Montana, St. Andrew School educates students in a Catholic classical tradition, forming young people in the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty while cultivating academic excellence and virtuous character.
We are seeking a teacher who loves great literature, thoughtful discussion, and the formation of young people, and who desires to teach within a faith-filled, mission-driven academic community.
Position Overview
The Literature Teacher will teach high school literature courses (grades 9–12). Courses include:
Classical Literature
Medieval Literature
British Literature
American/Modern Literature
The teacher will guide students in reading and analyzing great works of literature while helping them develop strong skills in critical thinking, discussion, and writing, integrated within the school’s Catholic and classical educational philosophy.
Responsibilities
– Teach high school literature courses listed above
– Prepare engaging lessons that emphasize close reading, analytical writing, discussion, and literary interpretation
– Foster a classroom environment rooted in respect, curiosity, and academic rigor
– Assess student learning through essays, discussions, projects, and examinations
– Collaborate with fellow faculty to support the classical curriculum
– Maintain timely communication with parents regarding student progress
– Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and the life of the school community
– Model virtuous character and support the spiritual formation of students
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
– Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Classical Liberal Arts, Humanities, or a related field
– Montana Class 2 Educator License with appropriate endorsement, or the ability to obtain Montana licensure
– Teaching experience at the high school level
– Strong background in classical, medieval, British, and American literature
– Excellent writing, communication, and classroom management skills
– Interest in or experience with classical education
– A commitment to forming students intellectually, morally, and spiritually
Candidates should also:
– Demonstrate an appreciation for the Catholic intellectual tradition and the classical liberal arts
– Be willing to integrate faith and reason in the study of literature, helping students encounter enduring questions about truth, virtue, beauty, and the human person through great works of literature
– Practicing Catholics who can actively support the mission of Catholic education are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates must successfully complete required background checks and safe environment training.
Compensation
Starting salary: $30,100. Salary Matrix in use with increases based on education and experience.
