K-2nd Grade Intern Teacher

San Jose Sanchez Del Rio is seeking to hire an Intern Teacher for our grades K-2 classroom for the 2026-2027 school year. As an Intern Teacher, no previous experience in the classroom is required. Applicants should desire to learn how to teach in a classical Catholic school and multi-graded classrooms. Work assignments can be arranged to accommodate a candidate who is completing teacher certification through on-line classes, or who is seeking a discernment year while gaining classroom experience and hands-on training.

In keeping with the great responsibility of promoting and guarding the Catholic identity of San Jose Sanchez Del Rio Catholic School, teachers must be aware that they fulfill a mandate received from the Church, to spread the Gospel message of Christ.  They must, therefore, be faithful to, as well as willing and able to promote that Catholic identity and to respect the entirety of Catholic doctrine as found in the Magisterium of the Church. Candidates for this position must desire to do this with joy, energy and love.  They must be aware that they will be leading little ones to Christ through their daily witness to their own love of God and the Catholic Faith.

San Jose Sanchez Del Rio Intern Teachers will be assigned to and work with a Mentor Teacher in presenting, and explaining learning materials, and educating students in all subjects that are part of the school’s curriculum for each grade level to which the Intern Teacher is assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Communicate subject matter through a variety of mediums in order to engage students and address the variety of learning styles and needs present amongst the students in the classroom
• Learn how to form daily lesson plans, prepare corresponding lesson materials, monitor student progress toward lesson goals through various forms of assessment including formative, summative and standardized testing
• Assume gradual responsibility, from his or her Mentor Teacher for maintaining and managing his or her group of assigned students or classroom and taking disciplinary action when needed, as the Intern Teacher demonstrates capacity to do so appropriately.
• Maintain a positive attitude, be knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects he or she is teaching, and share a passion for learning with all students

Intern Teacher Duties:

Working under the guidance and supervision of an assigned Mentor Teacher, the Intern Teacher will:

• Cultivate a hunger for knowledge among students and engage them to learn
• Encourage curiosity and continued improvement
• Help set goals for students and work with the class to help them attain these goals
• Keep an organized and orderly classroom that promotes creativity and learning
• Create and prepare daily lesson plans for appropriate age and learning skill level, making adjustments when needed
• Create and/or print out instructional material for classroom use
• Lead daily lesson plans, teaching the intended subject matter and answering any questions the students may have
• Keep track of attendance  and ensure students are attending and participating in class
• Assign work by means of in-class worksheets, projects, homework, presentations, reports, etc.
• Assess performance by grading work and giving tests
• Keep grade book current and submit all grades in a timely manner at end of each term
• Help students one-on-one who need extra assistance
• Enforce administration and school-wide policies
• Manage classroom rules and expectations
• Discipline students (according to school policy) when necessary
• Be active in the school community and events
• Participate in teaching training sessions
• Set up and participate in teacher/parent student-assessment conferences together with the Mentor Teacher

Qualification: 

• Practicing Catholic, with a passionate spirit in helping others
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Exemplary leadership, communication, and teamwork abilities
• Must be willing to work with all age groups, but in particular kindergarten to second grade
• Joyful, kind, and firm manner
• Very strong verbal and written communication skills
• Creative and able to create a fun learning environment
• Patience, skill as a mediator, able to keep a positive attitude and control emotions
• Efficient with time management, multi-tasking and prioritizing
• Outstanding critical thinking abilities
• Strong organizational skills
• Extensive knowledge of computer applications
• Upstanding ethics and integrity
• A passion for learning and sharing your knowledge with others
