Saint Theresa Catholic School is a PreK–8 Catholic school located in Sugar Land, Texas, fully committed to providing an education that unites the wisdom of the classical tradition with a firm foundation in Catholic faith and morals. Position Overview
The Latin Teacher is responsible for the instruction and formation of students in Latin in accordance with the principles of Catholic classical education. This full-time role serves students in grades 3–8 and includes teaching one to two Upper Elementary Math classes, aligned with the school’s adopted Singapore Math curriculum.
The Latin Teacher shares in the work of forming students in wisdom and virtue, cultivating attentiveness, discipline, clarity of thought, and a love of learning, while serving as a faithful witness to the Catholic faith.
Essential Responsibilities
The Latin Teacher will:
- Teach Latin to students in grades 3–8 using classical pedagogy, including:
- Latin grammar and vocabulary
- Oral recitation and pronunciation
- Translation and reading comprehensio
- Connections between Latin, English grammar, and Western civilization
- Foster an appreciation for Latin as the language of the Church and the classical tradition
- Teach one to two sections of Upper Grammar Math, following the school’s curriculum, scope and sequence, and pacing expectations
- Deliver instruction with clarity, structure, and intellectual rigor
- Establish and maintain an orderly, disciplined, and joyful classroom environment rooted in virtue
- Collaborate with administration and faculty to support the academic and cultural mission of the school
- Communicate professionally and proactively with parents regarding student progress
- Serve as a faithful witness to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Classics, Latin, Humanities, Education, or a related field
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge in Latin instruction
- Have the ability and willingness to teach Upper Grammar Math
- Be familiar with classical education and/or the Trivium
- Demonstrate fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Exhibit strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills
- Show a commitment to ongoing professional and spiritual formation
A master’s degree and/or additional formation in Classical Education, Latin, Mathematics, or Theology is strongly preferred.
