Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a College Counselor who is committed to guiding students and families through the college discernment and application process with wisdom, clarity, and integrity. The ideal candidate will understand college planning as a form of vocational discernment and will support students in pursuing postsecondary options that foster intellectual growth, personal maturity, and fidelity to truth.
Job Summary
The College Counselor is responsible for advising high school students and families on college selection, application, and transition in a manner consistent with the mission and values of Regina Luminis Academy. This role includes coordinating all aspects of the college counseling program, assisting students in discerning appropriate academic and vocational pathways, and representing the school professionally to colleges and universities.
Specific Responsibilities
Advise students individually and in groups regarding college selection, applications, timelines, and requirements.
Guide students and families through discernment of postsecondary options, including colleges, universities, and other pathways, in light of students’ gifts, interests, and goals.
Assist students with applications, essays, résumés, and interview preparation.
Coordinate standardized testing information, timelines, and score reporting.
Maintain accurate records of student applications, acceptances, and outcomes.
Write and submit school-related materials, including counselor recommendations and school profiles.
Communicate clearly and regularly with parents regarding the college process and expectations.
Build and maintain professional relationships with college admissions representatives.
Collaborate with faculty and administration to support students’ academic planning and readiness.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of the college admissions landscape and application processes.
Ability to counsel students with discretion, compassion, and sound judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed and thoughtful recommendations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Appreciation for classical education and the aims of a Catholic liberal arts formation.
Commitment to the teachings and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and families.
Professional demeanor and respect for confidentiality.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
Prior experience in college counseling, admissions, or secondary education is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with classical schools or Catholic education is highly desirable.
Relevant professional certifications or graduate coursework are a plus but not required.
