Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a Sacred Music Teacher who understands music as a vital expression of prayer, beauty, and truth. The ideal candidate will be committed to forming students in musical skill and liturgical reverence, drawing from the rich heritage of the Church’s sacred music while supporting the spiritual and cultural life of the school.

Job Summary

The Sacred Music Teacher is responsible for instructing students in sacred music within the context of a classical Catholic education. This role includes teaching music fundamentals, vocal technique, and sacred repertoire; leading student choirs; and supporting school liturgies and devotions through music. The teacher will help students encounter beauty as a pathway to God and foster disciplined musicianship ordered toward worship.

Specific Responsibilities

Teach sacred music classes using classical pedagogical methods appropriate to students’ ages and abilities.
Instruct students in music theory, sight-singing, and vocal technique.
Teach and rehearse sacred repertoire, with particular emphasis on Gregorian chant and traditional sacred polyphony.
Lead and direct student choirs for school liturgies, prayer services, and special events.
Collaborate with administration and clergy in planning music for Masses and other liturgical celebrations.
Foster an atmosphere of reverence, discipline, and joy in rehearsals and classes.
Assess student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.
Maintain music materials, scores, and other program resources.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Serve as a model of prayerful musicianship and Christian virtue.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church’s tradition of sacred music.
Proficiency in vocal music, choral direction, and basic music theory.
Ability to teach Gregorian chant and traditional sacred repertoire.
Appreciation for classical education and the formative role of music in the liberal arts.
Commitment to the teachings, liturgy, and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Effective classroom and rehearsal management skills.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative abilities.
Willingness to continue professional and spiritual development.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sacred Music, Choral Conducting, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Prior experience teaching music or directing choirs is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Catholic liturgy and experience providing music for the Mass is highly desirable.
Teaching certification is preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
Familiarity with or openness to classical education and Catholic pedagogy is strongly preferred.
