Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a Middle School English Teacher who is passionate about forming students in both literary understanding and written expression. The ideal candidate will be skilled in teaching grammar, composition, and literature through the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) methodology, fostering students’ clarity, creativity, and intellectual discipline while integrating the moral and spiritual formation central to the school’s mission.

Job Summary

The Middle School English Teacher is responsible for teaching English, literature, and composition to middle school students using classical pedagogical methods and the IEW writing program. This role includes guiding students in developing strong reading comprehension, analytical thinking, and effective written communication while nurturing intellectual curiosity, moral discernment, and virtue in a Christ-centered classroom.

Specific Responsibilities

Teach middle school English, literature, and composition courses aligned with the school’s classical curriculum.
Implement the IEW writing methodology to develop students’ structured and expressive writing skills.
Guide students in grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and literary analysis.
Foster a classroom environment of discipline, respect, curiosity, and academic rigor.
Integrate moral and spiritual formation into lessons, demonstrating the connection between language, thought, and virtue.
Assess student work through assignments, tests, and writing evaluations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Communicate professionally with parents, colleagues, and administration regarding student performance and development.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Serve as a model of Christian virtue, articulate expression, and love for learning.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong content knowledge in English, literature, and writing instruction for middle school students.
Experience with the IEW methodology and the ability to implement it effectively in the classroom.
Ability to teach grammar, composition, and literary analysis in a clear, engaging, and age-appropriate manner.
Appreciation for classical education and the role of language in forming reasoned, virtuous, and eloquent students.
Commitment to the teachings and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Effective classroom management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with faculty and pursue ongoing professional and pedagogical growth.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Literature, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Prior experience teaching middle school English is required.
IEW training or experience is highly preferred.
Teaching certification is preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
Familiarity with classical education and Catholic pedagogy is strongly preferred.
