High School Physical Education & Health Teacher (Coaching Responsibilities Included)

Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a High School Physical Education and Health Teacher who is passionate about forming students in physical discipline, teamwork, and virtue. The ideal candidate will understand athletics as an integral part of education—forming strength of body, perseverance of character, and habits of leadership—while faithfully supporting the moral and spiritual mission of the Academy.

Job Summary

The High School Physical Education and Health Teacher is responsible for instructing students in physical education and health while assisting with coaching responsibilities in the Academy’s growing athletic programs. This role includes promoting physical fitness, sound health principles, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a structured and virtuous environment consistent with classical Catholic education. The teacher-coach will serve as a mentor who models integrity, discipline, and Christian character both in the classroom and on the field.

Specific Responsibilities

Teach high school Physical Education and Health courses aligned with the school’s curriculum and mission.
Promote physical fitness, athletic skill development, and lifelong wellness habits.
Instruct students in foundational health topics, including nutrition, personal responsibility, and character formation.
Assist with coaching one or more athletic teams, including practices, games, and supervision.
Foster a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and respect.
Maintain a safe and orderly environment in gymnasium, athletic fields, and classrooms.
Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of participation and performance.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director and faculty to support the Academy’s growing athletic programs.
Communicate clearly and professionally with parents and administration regarding student progress and team matters.
Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and professional development.
Serve as a visible model of Christian virtue, leadership, and professionalism.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of physical education instruction and health education principles.
Experience or demonstrated ability in coaching high school athletics.
Ability to motivate and mentor students in both competitive and instructional settings.
Effective classroom and team management skills.
Appreciation for classical education and the integration of athletics within holistic formation.
Commitment to the teachings and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate with faculty and athletic staff.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, or a related field required.
Teaching certification preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
Prior experience teaching high school Physical Education and/or Health preferred.
Coaching experience at the secondary level strongly preferred.
Familiarity with or openness to classical education and Catholic pedagogy strongly preferred.
