Job Title: Learning Specialist
Overview
Holy Family Classical School seeks a mission-aligned and compassionate Learning Specialist to support students with diverse learning needs while upholding the school’s Catholic and classical mission. Rooted in the Church’s understanding of the dignity of the human person and guided by classical pedagogy, the Learning Specialist works to ensure that each student is supported in his or her pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
The Learning Specialist provides individualized academic support, collaborates with faculty to implement effective classroom strategies, and communicates proactively with families. This role helps foster a culture in which all students are formed intellectually, morally, and spiritually.
As a ministerial role, the Learning Specialist integrates the teachings of the Church into daily practice and witnesses to the dignity of every child, particularly those who require additional academic support.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Assessment
Conduct and interpret formal and informal assessments to identify learning strengths and challenges.
Develop, document, and review Individualized Academic Plans (IAPs) that include goals, accommodations, and modifications tailored to students’ needs.
Provide targeted, small-group or individual instruction for students requiring academic support.
Track and monitor student progress, adjusting support strategies based on data, observation, and teacher input.
Maintain accurate documentation of student support plans and progress.
Faculty Collaboration & Instructional Partnership
Partner with classroom teachers to implement accommodations and differentiated strategies that support student success.
Provide guidance to faculty on best practices for supporting diverse learners within a classical classroom environment.
Assist teachers in adapting instruction and assignments while maintaining the integrity of the classical curriculum.
Offer occasional professional development or coaching to strengthen faculty capacity in supporting students with learning differences.
Parent Communication & Advocacy
Communicate regularly and proactively with parents regarding student progress and support strategies.
Serve as an advocate for students with learning differences while upholding the dignity of the learner.
Assist families in understanding available resources, including those connected to the Lindsey Nicole Henry (LNH) Scholarship and other educational supports.
Mission Alignment & Professional Growth
Model Catholic virtues in word and action, fostering an environment of patience, charity, and encouragement.
Ensure that student support practices align with the school’s mission and the Church’s vision of human dignity.
Participate in professional development related to classical education, learning differences, and intervention strategies.
Work collaboratively with school leadership to continually refine academic support services.
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing who supports the teachings of the Church and models a life of virtue.
Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or a related field required; advanced degree or certification in special education preferred.
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
Knowledge of learning disabilities, intervention strategies, and student support documentation.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Appreciation for or willingness to learn classical teaching methods and Catholic classical education.
Additional Requirements
Maintain compliance with diocesan requirements, including VIRTUS certification and child protection policies.
Adhere to the policies outlined in the Diocese of Tulsa Employee Handbook, the Diocese of Tulsa Catholic Schools Office Handbook, and the Holy Family Classical School Faculty and Staff Handbook.
Attend required meetings, school events, liturgies, and professional development as determined by school leadership.
