Website Chesterton Academy of Christ the King Alexandria, Virginia
Chesterton Academy of Christ the King, a member of the Chesterton Schools Network, seeks full-time and part-time joyful Catholic educators for our new high school, which will open at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA, next fall. The time-tested, detailed, and integrated Chesterton curriculum grounds students in history and introduces them to the master works of the Christian tradition in all subjects, orienting them toward the good, the true, and the beautiful. At Chesterton Academies, students attend daily Mass, grapple with the big questions of history, philosophy, and theology in Socratic seminars, read and discuss great literature, hone their logic and problem solving in math and science, and become articulate writers and speakers as well as compassionate and reflective young adults.
As our new school will begin small, applicants for full-time positions for our initial 2026-2027 school year need to be able to teach multiple subjects at the freshman level and/or provide staff support in other areas to round out their day. Applicants for part-time specialized roles will also be considered. Candidates for all faculty and staff positions need to be joyful practicing Catholics, well versed in their subject matter, with an ability to relate to and mentor young people through the crucially important teenage years. Teaching experience and a familiarity with the classical approach is desired, and ongoing support and professional development will be provided and required.
Responsibilities:
- Bring the Chesterton curriculum to life for our students in engaging classes centered around discussion without reliance on digital media or platforms
- Model for students the life of an intellectually curious, virtuous, faithful Catholic
- Communicate and partner with parents to shape the intellectual, spiritual, and character formation of the students and help prepare them for next steps beyond high school
- Collaborate with internal faculty to deepen the curricular integration and participate in professional development and collaboration opportunities offered by the Chesterton Schools Network
- Participate in and support extra-curricular and enrichment activities to foster a vibrant school culture and community
Qualifications:
- Strong teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills
- High school teaching experience or other experience working with teenagers
- Bachelor’s degree and familiarity with classical education
- Faithful and joyful practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
If not already licensed or certified to teach in public or private schools in Virginia, such certification must be obtained within the first year of employment. All faculty and staff must also complete VIRTUS training and certification as well as CPR and first aid training.
Qualified faculty candidates should submit the following materials to Careers@Chesterton-ChristTheKing.org:
- Current resume highlighting relevant credentials and experience
- Cover letter outlining interest in position, comfort level and experience with specific subjects, and indicating whether full-time or part-time employment is desired
- Three professional references with all contact information
Should a job offer be extended, candidates will need to provide official transcripts of all education, a letter of good standing from the pastor of their church, copies of any teaching license or certification, and a complete background check.
