Website Ave Maria Catholic Academy Ave Maria, Florida

Ave Maria Catholic Academy is seeking a full-time Rhetoric School math and science teacher. Candidates must see themselves as called by God to manifest the love of Christ to high school students through the teaching of mathematics and be a witness to all that is true, good, and beautiful. This calling is joyfully carried out among seasoned faculty who strive for personal sanctity and are “entirely consecrated to the welfare of [their] pupils […] ready to face every difficulty and endure fatigue to attain [this] object” (St. John Bosco).

At Ave Maria Catholic Academy, we believe the pursuit of transcendental realities cannot be separated from Christ, the source of all truth. Only by allowing God His due place, with a reverence faithful to the Magisterium of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church, is an authentic and rigorous liberal arts education possible. Teaching mathematics and science in such an environment allows Rhetoric Level students to encounter Christ richly and powerfully, so they can own the faith for themselves and evangelize others.

The Ave Maria Catholic Academy mathematics and science program is ordered toward an acquisition of content knowledge in mathematics and science that communicates a coherent understanding of the universe, finding its ultimate origin in God. In particular, at the Rhetoric Stage (grades 9-12), the goal of mathematics courses will be connecting the arithmetic skills mastered in the Grammar Stage and algebraic habits mastered in the Logic Stage (6-8) with the ultimate goal of setting students free to explore an understanding of the divine origin of the ordered universe through a mathematical lens at the Rhetoric Stage. The mathematics teacher must be able to articulate this vision of mathematics and teach the appropriate content knowledge, while also providing students with an embodied experience of mathematical learning. The science teacher must be able to articulate this vision of the sciences, teach the appropriate content knowledge, and provide students with an embodied experience of scientific learning.

The salary is competitive and includes standard diocesan benefits. In addition to being a faithful Catholic in good standing with the Church, you must hold a Florida teaching credential. If you do not yet have one, a bachelor’s degree and a clear personal history will qualify you for a 3-year temporary license, and we will help you secure a full license online during that time.
