Position Title: Extended Care Director
Position Type: Part Time
Job Description: St. James School, a Catholic elementary school serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 and located in the heart of San Francisco, between Noe Valley and the Mission District is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and energetic Extended Care Director to join our team. The ideal candidate is highly organized, an effective communicator, and dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children in our after-school program. The ideal candidate will share a growth mindset, hold students to high expectations and have an aptitude for working with elementary aged students 5 – 13 years old (Kindergarten – 8th grade). This individual will support students’ day-to-day needs and foster a calm, structured atmosphere where they have the opportunity to complete homework and grow socially, emotionally, and physically.
Qualifications & Requirements
An Extended Care Director must be able to adequately perform each essential duty, and have the following education and experience:
Experience
● Preferably have three or more years of experience working in an elementary school setting.
● Preferably have earned or actively working towards a degree in Education or a related field.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
● Prior experience working with school-aged children in a classroom or childcare setting
● Responsible, reliable, and nurturing demeanor
● Comfortable working in a Catholic school environment and supporting its values
● Current First Aid/AED/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Technical Skills
● Preferably speak Spanish to help aid in communication with families
● Have excellent communication skills with stakeholders including parents and colleagues
● Understand the mission of Catholic schools
● Be proficient with computer technology including word processing, google suite, google classroom, google calendar, email
● Maintain accurate attendance and student records during extended care hours
● Responsible for monthly billing spreadsheets
● Organize materials, games, and activities appropriate for elementary-age students
● Maintain supplies, equipment and materials
Collaborative Colleague
● Effective multitasker; can prioritize tasks based on importance and deadlines.
● To be self-motivating and resourceful, detail oriented, and organized
● Collaborates with peers to enhance the school environment and support program effectiveness
● Have demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, empathy and care in collaboration with colleagues
● Prepare and serve snacks
● Maintain and organize facilities including storage of resources, equipment and cleanup of area
Culture Keeper/Behavior Management
● Create a warm and structured environment for students to relax, complete homework, and enjoy enrichment activities
● Works in a team environment and encourages open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents and co-workers
● Ensure the safety, well-being, and respectful behavior of all students in your care

Calendar
● Supervise students in the after-school program from dismissal through 6:00 p.m.
● Presence at school premises approximately 10 months from mid/end August to mid June as needed to open and close program each school year
Compensation: Compensation and benefits for this non-exempt, hourly-paid position is set in accordance with the Archdiocese of San Francisco Parish Pay Guidelines and depending upon the experience of the candidate. The work schedule will follow the School “Days In Session” Calendar.
Pay range: $20.00 – 25.00 per hour.
Successful candidates will be required to submit Livescan Fingerprinting Clearance, complete an online Child Safety course, and present results indicating a negative TB and Covid test, per SF Archdiocese Compliance policy.
Extended Care Program Schedule:
● Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
● Wednesdays: 2:00 – 6:00pm
● Adjusted hours on early release days, conference week, and other special days.
● Minimum Day Schedule: 12:30 – 6:00pm
