Website Saint John Paul the Great Academy New York City, New York

The Academy was born from the collective effort of both lay people and religious sisters who were deeply convinced that all children, from all economic backgrounds deserve an integral education that will allow them to appreciate Truth, Goodness and Beauty wherever it may be found and thereby grow in perfection as Christians and as citizens.

We believe that transmitting the faith in school is non-negotiable because there can be no authentic education of the human person without the aid of grace.

Education consists essentially in the formation of man “as he should be and how he should behave in this earthly life in order to achieve the sublime end for which he was created”[1] , it is evident then, that “as there can be no true education that is not totally ordered to the Ultimate End, so, in the present order of Providence (…), there can be no complete and perfect education if it is not Christian”[2]

It is our firm hope that John Paul the Great Academy can faithfully and creatively respond to the needs our time, working for the glory of God and establishing His Kingdom in souls.

In this, our first year of operation, we are seeking three grammar school teachers for Kindergarten, First and Second grade.

We are seeking individuals who know the nobility of the task to which they have been called as well as what this task demands. In the soul of the teacher there must always reign the order of the principles that flow from the discovery of the Truth, and from here he can communicate it to others.

  • “The educator must be an example of religious and moral life. Formation is a creative participation in the redemptive work of God. It is an entry with heart and soul into the school of Jesus Christ’. But it is necessary to enter the school of Christ in order to become capable and responsible educators, and you know how much discipline, study, updating and professionalism this task demands”[3]
  • Every educator must know that his work is not done alone: as God’s collaborators (1 Cor 3:9) for the work of the Gospel, he must nourish his action with prayer and listening to the interior Master, for without me you can do nothing, said the Lord (Jn 15:5).
  • “Every Christian educator is called, in the name of the Lord, to instill in his students respect for truth, confidence and optimism in shaping their future, and the Christian virtue of hope”[4].
  • The educator must know the spiritual and psychological reality of children and young people of our time.
  • “He must behave towards his pupils with paternal firmness and also with tenderness in order to attract them to the good”[5]
  • The educator has the duty to love children and to love men to the point that they come to persuade themselves that they are loved.
  • We aspire that in our schools, as in the Oratories of Don Bosco, a family spirit reigns.
