The Roy Rohter Chair
for the Restoration of Catholic Liberal Education

Pope Pius XI wrote beautifully that the real and total purpose of education was heaven. This could be the wording to describe the compass needle of the last thirty years of Roy Rohter’s life. While also passionately concerned with pro life and sacred liturgy, it was Catholic education that defined his philanthropic efforts.

The last few years, Roy began to get very excited about the reach of The Institute for Catholic Liberal Education, which took what he did with the three schools he helped found and expand it across the country. Teachers, schools and even dioceses are now looking to the model of the Catholic liberal arts, our heritage, as a source of renewal of every aspect of a school. One of Roy’s mantras was “multiply yourself!” He did this first with his family, then his business partners and friends and finally his schools. His new enthusiasm for ICLE was perfectly in concert with this mantra – our schools were now multiplying themselves through this work!

During the last few months before his death, Roy was giddy at the prospect of expanding the joy of wisdom, virtue and heaven to thousands of students across the nation. Thus we seek to establish for the Institute the Roy Rohter Chair for the Restoration of Catholic Liberal Education. Might the fruits of that Chair realize his dreams to expand the true, the good and the beautiful to thousands and thousands of young people across this country, thirsting for the Living Truth.
