Job Description
Stella Maris Academy seeks an energetic, versatile, and mission-driven individual to serve as our PE Teacher, Athletic Director, and Before and After School Care Tutor. This unique role combines physical education, athletic leadership, and student support to nurture the whole child—body, mind, and soul. The successful candidate will inspire students to develop physical fitness, health, virtue, teamwork, and discipline while contributing to our vibrant Catholic community.
Key Responsibilities:
Physical Education Teacher:
Design and teach a dynamic PE curriculum for lower and middle school that promotes health, virtue, coordination, and sportsmanship, rooted in the dignity of the human person.
Incorporate activities that reflect the classical emphasis on balance and virtue, such as traditional games and cooperative exercises.
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment for all students.
Athletic Director:
Develop and oversee a growing interscholastic sports program, coordinating schedules, coaches, and competitions with other the archdiocese CYO sports department local schools.
Foster a culture of excellence and camaraderie in athletics, emphasizing virtuous character formation alongside skill development.
Manage equipment, uniforms, and facilities, ensuring alignment with school resources and mission
Before and After School Care Tutor:
Supervise and engage students in before and after school care (approximately 7:15-8:00 AM and 3:30-5:30 PM), providing a safe and nurturing environment.
Assist with homework, lead enrichment activities, and reinforce classroom lessons in a supportive setting.
Collaborate with parents and staff to ensure continuity of mission, care, and communication.
Qualifications:
Passion for working with children and a commitment to the mission of Catholic classical education, ideally with an appreciation for the Catholic intellectual classical liberal arts tradition.
Experience in playing team sports and teaching physical education, coaching, or youth athletics, with the ability to instruct and inspire students of varying abilities.
Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Prior experience in a school or youth program setting is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Ability to model Christian virtues and maintain a positive, energetic presence.
