Job Description
Stella Maris Academy seeks a devout, orthodox, passionate, mission driven individual to serve as our 3rd-8th grade math and science teacher. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore the beauty of mathematics and the wonders of the natural world through a Catholic and classical vision of the created order. This role requires a deep commitment to fostering logical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and a sense of awe for God’s creation, while nurturing students’ minds and hearts. The successful candidate will inspire students to develop a love for the academic disciplines of math and science and model Catholic virtue in their teaching and classroom culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction: Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons in mathematics and science for grades 3–8, aligned with classical education instruction techniques.
Classroom Management: Foster a joyful and disciplined classroom environment that promotes and reflects virtue and a Catholic culture.
Assessment: Create and administer assessments to evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback and tailored support to meet learning needs.
Parent Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and opportunities for growth.
Extracurricular Involvement: Support the parish and school community by participating in the parish’s scarmeatential life through mass, confession, adoration, etc. and the school’s academic life thorugh after school clubs, and activities (e.g., science fairs, math competitions) that enrich student life.
Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen expertise in classical pedagogy, math, science, and the Church’s teachings.
Qualifications:
Passion for working with children and a commitment to the mission of Catholic classical education, ideally with an understanding of the Catholic intellectual tradition.
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science, philosophy, education, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of mathematics and science content suitable for elementary and middle school levels.
Familiarity with or eagerness to embrace classical instructional methods, such as Socratic questioning and Charlotte Mason’s teachniques.
Devout, orthodox, practicing Catholic with a commitment to the teachings of the Church and a desire to model faith, reason, and virtue to the students.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to inspire wonder and a love of learning in students of varying abilities.
