Position Summary

St. Louis de Montfort Catholic School is seeking a compassionate, qualified part-time School Counselor or Social Worker to support the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students. This position plays a key role in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive school climate rooted in the Catholic faith.

The ideal candidate will be a licensed mental health professional in the state of Indiana with experience in school-based settings. They will work closely with students, families, and staff to provide direct support services, group interventions, and school-wide programming that promote mental health, emotional regulation, and character development. This position is supervised by the School Principal and follows diocesan and school policies.

This is a part-time position during school hours, generally between 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM, across 3 days per week, totaling approximately 20–24 hours.

Qualifications

·       Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field

·       Candidates must have master’s degrees that are licensable in the state of Indiana

·       Licensure status: must have a temporary or associate license (LSW, LMHCA, LMFTA), or a Clinical License (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT)

·       Practicing Catholic preferred; must be committed to counseling students within the teachings of the Catholic faith

•     Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and emotional regulation strategies

•    Demonstrated ability to work independently, think critically, and navigate the dynamics of a school setting across multiple age groups

•    Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

•    Ability to maintain confidentiality and model professional ethical standards

•    Comfort presenting to and communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff

•   Proficient in the use of computers, including the ability to create documentation, reports, and tools to support school counseling initiatives

•   Successful completion of the Safe and Sacred Training and criminal background check

• Willingness to participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school committees

Key Responsibilities
·       Provide individual and family therapy to students, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, and peer relationships

·        The therapist will provide direct mental health services to students within the school setting, helping them address emotional, behavioral, and social challenges that impact their academic success and overall well-being

·       Promote a positive, inclusive environment that fosters student growth and well-being

·       Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling/therapy program aligned with the mission and values of St. Louis de Montfort and diocesan guidance

·       Provide push-in, classroom-based lessons to promote emotional regulation, character education, conflict resolution, and stress management

·        Offer individual and small group counseling sessions for students whose social, emotional, or behavioral needs interfere with learning

·        Serve as a resource to teachers and staff to support student behavior and classroom climate

·        Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with ethical and legal standards within an electronic health record

·       Primarily work with students during the school day in the classroom or school office; before/after school and early evening hours will also be utilized to support students and families either at school or in the student’s home

·       Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community resources to connect students and families with additional support services

·        Partner with parents, caregivers, and outside professionals to ensure holistic support for students

·        Tailor communication and support strategies across different grade levels, from early childhood to middle school

·        Present mental health and behavioral insights in accessible ways to school staff, adapting delivery for various audiences

·        Develop and maintain counseling materials, reports, and tracking tools using computer-based platforms as needed

·        Proactively identify students in need of support and facilitate early intervention strategies

·        Actively contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on student well-being and community building

 

 

 

Work Environment
Part-time position (approximately 20–24 hours per week), with flexible scheduling across 3 days per week during school hours (generally between 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM) based on school needs.

Work is performed on campus in a school-based setting, involving collaboration with school administration, faculty, students, and families. May require brief classroom visits, confidential one-on-one sessions, and small group facilitation in a quiet, private setting. The counselor serves as an integral part of the school community, participating in spiritual life and events when appropriate.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and move between classrooms and offices throughout the school day. The candidate must be able to engage with students at eye-level, including kneeling or sitting on the floor when appropriate. Must have sufficient vision, hearing, and speech to engage in both individual and group settings. Use of a computer and other office equipment is required on a daily basis. The work may occasionally require lifting materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
