About St. John Vianney Academy:
St. John Vianney Academy is a homeschool hybrid program which teaches the truth of the magisterium of the Catholic Church under the Classical model.
Founded by parents seeking to educate their children in the beauty and truths of the Roman Catholic tradition, St John Vianney Academy aims to form young minds in logical reason and virtuous habit. By giving children, the age-appropriate tools of learning, as found in the classical mode of education, our primary goal is to lead young souls to the one who is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
The program has in person sessions every Tuesday and Thursday, and provides supplies, curriculum and lesson plans for Monday and Wednesday home days. The program currently offers pre-school through sixth grade.
Headmaster Role:
St. John Vianney Academy is seeking a Headmaster to lead and grow our young program. The Headmaster role at St. John Vianney Academy is a unique educational, administrative, and leadership-oriented vocation within the Catholic community of Kern County. The Headmaster is tasked with developing, growing, and maintaining a Classical Catholic Academy operated with the highest educational and virtue forming standards, while always maintaining the mission of the program.
Job Duties:
• Responsible for all Academy operations
• Work with teachers to develop curriculum
• Lead and coordinate fundraising activities
• Lead and coordinate SJVA outreach to the wider community
• Encouragement of students in spiritual life, providing opportunities for the Eucharist, Confession, and daily prayer
• Communication internally and externally with staff, students, parents, and community. Example: Monthly news letter
• Enrollment of students, including student and family interviews
• Interviewing, hiring, training, development, correction and termination as need. Assisted by Board of Directors
• Maintain compliance with program policies, rules and regulations
• Maintain program budget in conjunction with Board of Directors
• Attendance and participation in all board meetings with Headmaster report
• Schedule enrichment opportunities for students and staff,
• Schedule and conduct at least two general information sessions per year
• Schedule and conduct at least two parent training sessions per year
• Promote Christ the King Parish events
• Responsible for the safety of the students and faculty on campus and will maintain a site emergency preparedness plan
Skills and Qualifications:
• Love of our Lord Jesus Christ, Children, the Catholic Faith, and Classical Education.
• Faithful Catholic in good standing with the Church. Faithful to the teachings of the Church.
• Role model within the community, committed to providing a Gospel witness, with a high priority of personal virtue.
• Understanding of the Catholic Classical Education model and its implementation within the classroom.
• Understanding of how the Catholic worldview permeates both curriculum and instruction.
• Minimum 7 Years of teaching and/or educational administrative experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required. Master’s Degree in Education or related field preferred.
• Timely and effective communication to staff, children, parents, and broader community of supporters.
• Basic understanding of financial budgets and planning processes.
• Understanding of common standards for school operations; Safety, Compliance, Recordkeeping, etc.
• Ability and willingness to engage the greater community with information about SJVA and the great work being done.
