St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School (JPG) is seeking a dynamic, faith-filled, and mission-driven Principal to lead our educational community. The Principal will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring that school culture and academic, spiritual, and co-curricular programs align with the school’s Catholic mission and philosophy. As a key leader in the community, the Principal will foster an environment of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and virtuous leadership among students, faculty, and staff. The Principal reports directly to the President of the school and works closely with the leadership team, faculty, parents, and students.

Candidate Profile:
The Principal must be a Catholic in good standing with the Church, who assents to the Church’s teachings on all matters, with particular care for those concerning the nature of the human person, sexual ethics and sexual identity. The candidate shall possess a zeal for the Lord, living the faith in all aspects of life, with an ability to speak comfortably and competently about it to the various stakeholders.
This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week plus a willingness to devote additional time as needed for board meetings, community and donor engagement events and other meetings, which often occur in the evenings and weekends.
In terms of the performance and personal competencies expected for the position, we highlight the following:
- Educational Background: Bachelor of Arts or Science degree required; Master’s or advanced degree preferred.
- Spiritual Leadership: Ensure that the Catholic identity of the school permeates all aspects of the school culture, curriculum, and community life. Lead by example in fostering a vibrant spiritual life on campus, including participation in the sacramental life of the Church. Inspire organizational and professional confidence, passion, and persistence in an ambitious and positive work environment.
- Collaboration & Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including proven ability to engage and inspire multiple stakeholders including faculty, parents, and students. Work collaboratively with the President, administrative team, faculty, staff, parents, and local community members, and maintain open lines of communication with all constituents.
- Academic Excellence: Experience and knowledge of Catholic Classical pedagogy, curriculum, and program with the ability to train and coach faculty and families in this area. Oversee curriculum development, instructional practices, and academic programs to ensure that the school is meeting high standards of excellence and that students are well prepared for college, careers, and life as disciples of Christ.
- Student Development: Foster a Christ-centered environment that promotes the full human formation of students – intellectually, personally, and spiritually. Provide guidance for student discipline, support services, and co-activities.
- Faculty Development: Recruit, hire, support, and evaluate faculty and academic staff, ensuring professional development opportunities that promote growth in both pedagogy and faith formation.
Key Responsibilities:
General Administration
The Principal is charged with the responsibility for assisting the President in developing workable and effective policies and for implementing the policies ultimately set by the Board. The Principal leads in the maintenance of good relations with the school families, personnel, and constituents.
- Administer the school in conformity with Board policy and in accordance with the laws of the state, provided those laws do not violate the Scriptures upon which the
school is founded. - Make administrative decisions for the proper functioning of the academic program and all other operations of the school when needed.
- Be responsible for the development and application of administrative regulations and for leadership in implementing the school program.
- Oversee the acquisition of new curriculum, technologies, and resources to be integrated
into the program and operations of the school, in accordance with the mission of the school.
Personnel Administration
The Principal is responsible for the overall professional growth and leadership of the school’s faculty and academic staff to maximize the educational benefits for each student.
- Plan and oversee faculty meetings, professional development and faculty prayer times.
- Direct and approve the practices and procedures of teacher in-service training, conference and seminar participation, and continuing education.
- Interview prospective personnel and recommend to the President candidates deemed qualified.
- Make recommendations to the President for the continuance of employment or the re-issuance of teacher contracts. When necessary, initiate disciplinary procedures involving teachers or staff.
- Resolve problems which may arise between parents and teachers, teachers and students, or staff members, applying biblical principles of problem solving.
- Maintain and keep current all personnel files and records for the school.
Curriculum and Instruction
The Principal leads in developing, achieving, and maintaining the strongest possible educational programs and services which promote the goals and objectives of the school.
- Thoroughly understand the Catholic and classical model of teaching.
- Carry forward the educational goals and philosophy.
- Lead in curriculum development and staff and faculty recruitment.
- Work in collaboration with the Companions of Christ assigned to the school to schedule and execute ongoing spiritual formation for the students and faculty.
- Form and oversee the academic departments and special committees of the faculty in the development of the instructional programs.
- Oversee the scheduling of all teachers and students into appropriate courses or classrooms.
- Approve all extracurricular activities.
- Direct a program of evaluation through classroom visitation, lesson observation, and self-evaluation of teaching methods, curriculum content, and class- room management.
- Lead and manage school accreditation efforts.
Student Body
The Principal supervises the welfare of the student body and its individual students in their spiritual and academic growth, the quality of their learning program, and their physical well-being.
- Review and approve curricular plans as submitted by teachers, including the goals and objectives of each grade or course.
- Hold teachers accountable for implementing policies for student discipline.
- Administer strict student disciplinary measures when necessary and proper; such as probation, suspension, or expulsion.
- Ensure that a school-wide program of student evaluation is implemented, including achievement testing, and ensure that proper record keeping and reporting procedures are followed by teachers and staff.
- Oversee cumulative records for each student.
- Approve and oversee extracurricular activities and the personnel who supervise them in collaboration with the Vice President of Mission & Formation.
- In collaboration with the President and school leadership team, create and maintain a healthy school culture that lives out the mission of the school.
