Head of School
Saint Jerome Institute currently operates an internationally-recognized high school in the Catholic Liberal Arts tradition in Washington, DC.
We seek an experienced and entrepreneurial Catholic school leader to help expand our educational vision to a second location in Northern Virginia.
The Head of School is charged with cultivating a lively and rigorous academic and cultural life among faculty, parents, and students. The Head of School must therefore possess a deep love and knowledge of the Catholic intellectual and artistic tradition as well as the capacity for communicating that knowledge to faculty, parents, and students. He should be an experienced, enthusiastic, and effective teacher. Particular responsibilities and duties must be seen within this wider scope of developing a true community of learners devoted to knowing, loving, and celebrating the gift of God’s creation and our redemption.
Responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with the St. Jerome Institute Board and school leaders to establish a new school embodying the SJI curriculum and philosophy.
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of a new Catholic Liberal Arts high school
- Leading and mentoring teachers
- Communicating persuasively about the St. Jerome education project with the full range of stakeholders, supporters, and the general public.
- Overseeing ongoing recruitment and development for the school
- Teaching in at least one area of the curriculum
An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a liberal arts/sciences area
- Significant teaching experience
- Significant leadership experience in a liberal arts school, including responsibility for mentorship of teachers and curriculum development
- Demonstrated success supervising faculty and staff
- Demonstrated success overseeing school budgets and finances
- Demonstrated success engaging effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the St. Jerome philosophy and methods of education
- Practicing Catholic joyfully faithful to the magisterium of the Catholic Church and living according to Catholic moral doctrine.
