St. Benedict Classical Academy – a Catholic, classical, character-focused elementary school serving children in grades pre-K through 8 – is seeking a qualified, experienced Middle School Mathematics Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

Founded in 2013 as a parent-led initiative to provide an authentically Catholic education for their children, SBCA originally served students in grades K-6. In 2018, the school opened its Montessori-inspired early learning program. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school launched its first seventh-grade class and moved to its new, permanent location. The 2025-2026 school year will see the launch of our first eighth-grade class. This is an exciting time to join the SBCA team!

The Middle School Mathematics Teacher will play a key role in contributing to our middle-school mathematics program. This person ideally has prior teaching and curriculum experience and demonstrates exceptional organizational and communication skills. He or she will be enthusiastic about our Christ-centered mission and prepared to inspire students with wonder, awe, and joy in their study of how mathematics reveals the beautiful harmony imbued into creation by our Creator.

The Middle School Mathematics Teacher will:

• Teach and/or co-teach a sixth-grade mathematics course utilizing the Math in Focus Singapore Math curriculum; a seventh-grade pre-algebra course; and an eighth-grade algebra course.
• Evaluate middle-school students for placement in our leveled mathematics courses.
• Provide mathematics intervention and enrichment opportunities for middle-school students.
• Communicate effectively with parents regarding the mathematics curriculum and student progress.
• In consultation with the Director of Curriculum and the middle school faculty, prepare summer mathematics assignments.
• Participate in admissions and other school events (e.g., Open Houses, Family Math Night, etc.) as required.
• In case of teacher absences, serve as a substitute teacher for classes as assigned.
• Provide drop-off, pick-up, lunchroom, and recess supervision as assigned.
• Attend faculty meetings, retreats, and professional development sessions as required.
• Assist in co-curricular activities (e.g., student clubs, advisory program, Benedictine Guild, House System, etc.) as needed and desired.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A strong commitment to our school’s mission and the Catholic faith.
• A deep and meaningful love of working with elementary and middle-school children and their primary educators, their parents.
• Enthusiasm for and familiarity with Catholic classical/liberal arts pedagogy, including an understanding of how mathematics intersects with the humanities and enriches our Catholic faith.
• A love for the study of mathematics.
• Familiarity with the Singapore Mathematics curriculum and pedagogy.
• The ability to prepare lessons integrating instructional practices such as narration, Socratic questioning, and seminar discussions that create a sense of wonder and attentiveness to all that is true, good, and beautiful.
• The ability to create a joyful, welcoming, and orderly classroom environment where clear behavioral expectations are instilled and virtue is upheld.
• A positive outlook, a good sense of humor, and an ability to flexibly and creatively participate in the development of the school’s middle-school program.
• The ability to model for students a life committed to Christian discipleship, virtue, and a love of learning.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field by the time of employment.

Faculty at SBCA are required to sign a Statement of Faith. They are also required to submit to background screening as well as complete required safe environment and mandated reporter training.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
