St. Benedict Classical Academy – a Catholic, classical, character-focused elementary school serving children in Early Learning through Grade 8 – is seeking a qualified, experienced Facilities Manager to work alongside the Administration to ensure the safety and upkeep of the school building and grounds for the 2024-2025 school year.
Founded in 2013 as a parent-led initiative to provide an authentically Catholic education for their children, SBCA originally served students in grades K-6. In 2018, the school opened its Montessori-inspired early learning program. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school launched its inaugural seventh-grade class, with the expectation of opening an eighth grade class in 2025. We are also preparing a move to our permanent campus in our beautiful new school building, slated to open in the Fall of 2024. This is an exciting time to join the SBCA team!
The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of our school’s physical plant. Under the direction of the Headmaster, the Facilities Manager will:
- Ensure that all facilities and equipment are in a safe and proper working condition
- Perform basic custodial duties and small repairs as needed (e.g., light bulb replacement, light furniture assembly, trash removal, clean-up of spills, etc.)
- Conduct regular inspections of the physical plant to identify and proactively address maintenance needs
- Coordinate and schedule routine safety inspections and maintenance work (e.g., fire protection systems, emergency generators, elevators, etc.)
- Serve as “on-call” point-of-contact for weekend/off-hours emergencies and issues
- Oversee efficient use of school spaces, coordinating with the administration for any rearrangements or special event set-up
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, and other third-party vendors (i.e., cleaning, landscaping, alarm systems, electrical systems, HVAC, snow removal, IT, etc.)
- Maintain relevant records, including owner manuals, schedules, maintenance records, permits, licenses, etc.
- Collaborate with the administration in developing and maintaining the facilities budget
- Have familiarity and ensure compliance with government health and safety standards, regulations, and protocols
- Exhibit in word and deed behaviors that are in keeping with the Catholic mission of the school
- Fulfill all relevant duties and responsibilities assigned
The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong commitment to our school’s mission and the Catholic faith.
- Experience in facilities management, preferably in an educational setting
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- A positive outlook and a good sense of humor
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
- Work in a highly active and dynamic environment, dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Regularly use near and distance vision
- Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a ladder
- May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during carpool and special activities and events
All employees at SBCA are required to sign a Statement of Faith. They are also required to submit to background screening as well as complete required safe environment and mandated reporter training.
