Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and faithful English and Literature Teacher to serve in our Logic School (grades 5–8). The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for the great works of literature, a strong command of English language instruction, and a desire to form students intellectually and morally through the lens of a Catholic worldview.
This position offers the opportunity to teach literature and writing in a way that shapes not only the intellect but also the imagination and character of young students in their formative years.
Primary Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
Teach English and Literature classes to students in grades 5–8, using a classical approach that emphasizes close reading, grammar, writing, and rhetorical skills.
Guide students through classic literary works, including fables, myths, epics, poetry, plays, and novels that have stood the test of time.
Teach structured writing across genres—narrative, expository, persuasive—with an emphasis on clear, beautiful, and truthful expression.
Instruct students in grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and style using methods that align with classical pedagogy.
Foster thoughtful discussions rooted in the Socratic method, encouraging students to analyze texts, make connections, and articulate ideas.
Classroom Culture
Create an atmosphere of wonder, discipline, and joyful learning rooted in respect and love for truth.
Promote habits of attention, order, and excellence appropriate to the logic stage of development.
Build rapport with students and maintain high standards for academic and moral behavior.
Student Formation
Help students grow in virtue through literature that explores the human condition and moral imagination.
Encourage reflection on timeless themes and truths from a Catholic worldview.
Integrate prayer, Catholic values, and moments of spiritual reflection into classroom life.
Assessment & Communication
Evaluate student progress through regular written assignments, reading comprehension, class discussions, and oral presentations.
Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain clear communication with students and parents.
Keep accurate records and grades in accordance with school policies.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
Work with fellow Logic School teachers to ensure a cohesive and integrated curriculum across subjects.
Participate in faculty meetings, liturgies, and school events.
Pursue ongoing formation in classical education and Catholic teaching through professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Teaching experience, especially in a classical or Catholic school, is highly valued.
Familiarity with classical literature and traditional grammar instruction is preferred.
Skills & Dispositions
A love for language, literature, and the formation of young minds.
Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
Confidence leading literary discussions and teaching formal writing skills.
Joyful and faithful witness to the Catholic faith, with a desire to model Christ-like behavior.
Excellent classroom management and an ability to inspire a love of learning in middle school students.
Preferred
Familiarity with classical education or a willingness to be trained in its principles and practices
Experience teaching writing using structured methods (e.g., Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), The Lost Tools of Writing, or similar programs)

Physical Demands
