Saint Theresa Catholic School is a PreK–8 Catholic school located in Sugar Land, Texas, fully committed to providing an education that unites the wisdom of the classical tradition with a firm foundation in Catholic faith and morals. Position Overview
The Grammar School Classroom Teacher is responsible for the instruction and formation of students in accordance with the mission and classical curriculum of Saint Theresa Catholic School. The teacher teaches Humanities as the core of the elementary classroom, integrating history, literature, language, and culture, while intentionally weaving Catholic teaching, Scripture, prayer, and moral formation throughout all subjects taught.
The teacher fosters an orderly, joyful, and rigorous classroom environment and partners closely with families, faculty, and administration to support the formation of students in wisdom and virtue, helping them recognize all truth as ordered toward God.
Essential Responsibilities
The Grammar School Classroom Teacher will:
- Embrace and actively support the mission, philosophy, and Catholic identity of Saint Theresa Catholic School
- Teach Humanities as a core discipline, integrating history, literature, language, and cultural studies through a classical lens
- Integrate Catholic teaching, Scripture, prayer, and moral formation throughout all subjects, helping students see faith and reason as inseparable
- Teach using classical pedagogy, emphasizing knowledge-rich instruction, narration, memory work, and the cultivation of attention and virtue
- Establish and maintain a disciplined, orderly, and joyful classroom rooted in respect, charity, and reverence
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum, scope, and sequence
- Assess student progress and communicate clearly and professionally with parents regarding academic and behavioral growth
- Collaborate with colleagues and administration to strengthen the classical identity and coherence of the school
- Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities
Serve as a visible witness to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred)
- Have familiarity with classical education and/or a strong desire to be formed in classical pedagogy
- Demonstrate fidelity to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and actively live as a witness to Christ
- Exhibit strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
Show a commitment to ongoing professional, intellectual, and spiritual growth
Experience teaching in a classical Catholic school is preferred but not required.
