GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The vice principal collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by providing leadership and supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; and encouraging student educational and behavioral growth.

– Willingness to actively live out a life of virtue, setting examples for staff and students

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Maintain records on the FACTS Portal
● Manage Enrollment and Applications via FACTS
● Along with the Principal, negotiate and finalize tuition agreements
● Works with the pastor, principal, and staff to maintain the mission of the parish.
● Assist with student supervision and implementation of the Student Handbook.
● Counsel students and parents in regards to school and Archdiocesan policies.
● Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
● Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of individual student behavior assessments and positive behavioral plans.
● Serve in a leadership role when the principal is out of the school or unavailable.
● Model and coach school staff on behavior interventions for all students.
● Assist with student discipline.
● Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
● Provides crisis intervention when appropriate.
● Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff.
● Provide documentation of student progress.
● Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students and parents.
● Seek out appropriate best practices and emerging research in the field of behavioral health and wellness.
● Supports principal for school accreditation and strategic planning.
● Coordinates and assists with planning, teaching, and meetings for students with learning differences.
● Assist with curriculum development and evaluation.
● Assist with teacher and staff professional growth and development.
● Assist with parent opportunities for learning and growth.
● Supports the principal and teachers in training Instructional Assistants and volunteers as necessary.
● Partners with teachers and staff in finding coverage during absences.

Education, Credentials, and Experience:

– Have at least 2-3 years of classroom teaching experience or understanding of the classroom environment.
– Have working knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, as well as real-world experience of leading in a Catholic environment
– Compliance with Safe Environment requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

– Practicing, fully initiated Catholic living in full communion with the teachings of the Catholic Church, living faithfully the precepts of the Catholic Church and participating member of a Catholic parish.
– Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Parish and the Archdiocese of Portland or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals;
– Have a strong commitment to the importance of the Catholic school ministry to the mission of the Church
– Have previous teaching experience; previous administrative experience is preferred
– Be committed to the St. Joseph Catholic School Mission and Archdiocese of Portland’s vision and philosophy for Catholic education
– Possess a strong, positive, can-do attitude, with a strong bias for action based on realistic, specific, and attainable goals
– Demonstrate good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
– Effective supervisory skills;
– Effective listening and verbal communication skills;
– Must work cooperatively with school staff and administration;
– Sound judgment and decision-making skills;
– Knowledge of and willingness to implement safety and emergency procedures;
– Positive references and recommendations;
– Successfully pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Vice Principal must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push, and/or pull items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to emergency situations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is usually performed in a school setting. Employee is required to attend evening meetings and may oversee field trips and other special events.

SUPERVISION

Exercises working supervision over all staff, students, instructional assistants, and volunteers as necessary.

PAYSCALE

$81,000 – $103,000 (Experience and Budget Pending)
