Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a faithful, joyful, and intellectually serious High School Science Teacher to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be committed to the pursuit of truth, the formation of the whole person, and the integration of scientific inquiry within a Catholic worldview.
Job Summary
The High School Science Teacher is responsible for instructing students in one or more science disciplines (such as biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science) in a manner consistent with classical pedagogy and the teachings of the Catholic Church. This position involves cultivating wonder, disciplined thinking, and reverence for God’s creation while maintaining high academic standards and supporting the moral and spiritual formation of students.
Specific Responsibilities
Teach assigned high school science courses using clear, engaging, and rigorous instruction rooted in classical methods.
Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum, mission, and scope and sequence.
Integrate faith and reason by presenting scientific content in harmony with Catholic doctrine and philosophy.
Foster a classroom environment characterized by order, respect, charity, and intellectual curiosity.
Assess student learning through appropriate formative and summative evaluations and provide timely feedback.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Serve as a role model of Christian virtue and professionalism for students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong content knowledge in at least one (preferably two) high school science discipline(s).
Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and enthusiastically to adolescents.
Appreciation for and willingness to employ classical educational principles and methods.
Commitment to the mission of Catholic education and fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church.
Effective classroom management skills and the ability to maintain high expectations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administration.
Willingness to continue growing professionally and intellectually.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Teaching certification is preferred but not required for otherwise well-qualified candidates.
Prior high school teaching experience is desirable, though motivated new teachers with strong academic backgrounds/work experience are encouraged to apply.
Familiarity with or openness to classical education and Catholic pedagogy is strongly preferred.
