Job Summary
The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for teaching one or more mathematics courses (such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, or Calculus) in accordance with classical pedagogy and the mission of Regina Luminis Academy. The teacher will cultivate logical reasoning, precision of thought, and intellectual virtue while fostering an orderly and encouraging classroom environment that supports students’ academic, moral, and spiritual development.
Specific Responsibilities
Teach assigned high school mathematics courses using clear, structured, and engaging instruction.
Present mathematics as an ordered and meaningful discipline, emphasizing logical reasoning, proof, and problem-solving.
Develop lesson plans and assessments aligned with the school’s curriculum, classical approach, and academic standards.
Maintain a classroom atmosphere marked by discipline, charity, and high expectations.
Evaluate student work regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Serve as a model of intellectual honesty, diligence, and Christian virtue.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong content knowledge in secondary mathematics.
Ability to explain abstract concepts in a clear, logical, and accessible manner.
Appreciation for classical education, particularly the role of mathematics within the quadrivium.
Commitment to the teachings and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
Ability to foster perseverance, confidence, and disciplined thinking in students.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to collaborate with faculty and engage in ongoing professional growth.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Teaching certification is preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
Prior high school teaching experience is desirable, though strong candidates new to teaching are encouraged to apply.
Familiarity with or openness to classical education and Catholic pedagogy is strongly preferred.
