Regina Luminis Academy, a classical school in the Catholic liberal arts tradition, seeks a High School History Teacher who is dedicated to the study of the past as a means of forming wise, virtuous, and thoughtful young people. The ideal candidate will teach history as a coherent narrative shaped by ideas, culture, and faith, helping students to understand human events in light of reason and Divine Providence.

Job Summary

The High School History Teacher is responsible for teaching one or more history courses (such as Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, American, or World History) in accordance with classical pedagogy and the mission of Regina Luminis Academy. The teacher will guide students in careful reading of primary sources, thoughtful discussion, and clear written expression while fostering a deep appreciation for the moral, philosophical, and religious dimensions of history.

Specific Responsibilities

Teach assigned high school history courses using classical methods that emphasize narrative, primary sources, and Socratic discussion.
Present historical events, figures, and ideas accurately and charitably within a Catholic worldview.
Develop lesson plans and assessments aligned with the school’s curriculum and scope and sequence.
Foster an orderly, respectful, and intellectually serious classroom environment.
Guide students in historical analysis, critical thinking, and clear written and oral expression.
Assess student learning regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Serve as a witness to Christian virtue, intellectual humility, and professionalism.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong content knowledge in history, with the ability to teach chronologically and thematically.
Facility with primary historical texts and the ability to guide students in close reading and discussion.
Appreciation for classical education and the role of history within the liberal arts.
Commitment to the teachings and moral vision of the Catholic Church.
Ability to present complex ideas clearly and engagingly to high school students.
Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with faculty and pursue ongoing professional growth.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in History or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Teaching certification is preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
Prior high school teaching experience is desirable, though strong candidates new to teaching are encouraged to apply.
Familiarity with or openness to classical education and Catholic pedagogy is strongly preferred.
