Regina Academy at St. John the Baptist, a Catholic classical school for students in grades PreK-8, is seeking a Music Teacher for the Fine Arts program.
The position requires teaching all classes from Pre-school to grade 8 on a weekly basis, leading the student choir, supporting weekly liturgies and other events including the annual spring play and a school wide concert. The program includes both sacred (hymnody and Gregorian chant) and secular music (following the historical era studied at each grade); folk songs; music theory and choral singing.
The curriculum includes a regular schedule of listening to music of the various historical periods and their respective period correct instrumentation. The ideal candidate will be proficient on the organ, piano and guitar, and in vocal training; provide instruction in Boomwhacker Chroma-Notes desk bells for all grades, and collaborate with the 4th Grade Classroom Teacher on recorder instruction for that class.
This role requires familiarity with sound design, management of the audio system (mic’ing and mixing), and the production of sound effects. Our musical play productions include live piano accompaniment.
This position may also involve leading a string-based orchestra program providing private and group instruction for interested students (paid privately by parents), or the ability to assist the Dean of Academics in securing a suitable instructor.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals who can be a clear witness to the Faith, love learning, and are committed to the mission and philosophy of the Academy. Candidates should have a passion for teaching and forming the whole person – spirit, mind, and body – as well as a desire to work collaboratively with other teachers. Important characteristics would include strong classroom management skills, focus on excellence, and positive working relationships. Teacher certification is not required.
