Within the context of the tradition and charism of the Sisters of Mercy, supportive of the Mission and Values of Mercy
High School and Catholic Church teachings and doctrine, the Interim Assistant Athletic Director reports to the Athletic
Director and is responsible for supporting the Athletics program and its student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Director
supports the various dimensions of the Athletics Program and serves as a very public member of the Mercy community.
Qualifications:
The Interim Assistant Athletic Director should have a deep passion for Catholic education and advancing women’s
education and athletics; and who serves as a moral role model to our students. To perform the job successfully, the
individual should be able to support students with a gentle firmness, displaying compassion and empathy while treating
all stakeholders with dignity. The individual should be a strong colleague who communicates with warmth and
transparency and who honors confidentiality.
The Assistant Athletic Director must possess the ability to perform as part of a team and have excellent interpersonal
skills; have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of audiences;
needs strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask; meet challenges with a sense of
humor and a “can do it” attitude.
Athletic Trainer Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
● Assess student-athlete injuries, make recommendations for care, and implement treatment plans for returning to
play.
● Maintain appropriate general treatment orders approved by a physician.
● Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away contests as needed, including weekend
and holiday tournaments.
● Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists for athletes and their parents.
● Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and student athletes treated by a physician.
● Assist during an all school emergency and coordinate with the campus Emergency Response Team.
● Oversee and manage all student physicals ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
● Oversee and manage Magnus, the school health database, and work with the Administrative Assistant for
Student Life and Athletics to ensure all student documentation is accurate and up to date.
● Oversee and manage the pre-concussion program for the entire student body.
● In coordination with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life, develop and maintain a budget for the athletic
training program.
● Take inventory and replenish athletic training supplies as needed.
● Organize and update all team medical kits.
● Schedule and coordinate pre-participation sports physicals and a summer Physical Night.
● Provide the coaches and Athletic Director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete.
● Develop and manage a Student Sports Medicine/ Athletic Training Internship Program
● Teach a Sports Medicine/Athletic Training or Anatomy course
● Manage and oversee the strength and conditioning program, inclusive of year round conditioning sessions
● Manage annual faculty and staff CPR and First Aid Training and record keeping
● Other duties that may arise
Assistant Athletic Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
● Support the supervision of coaching staff inclusive of interviewing, hiring, and managing coaches and leading
meetings for all sports (volleyball, tennis, cross-country, flag football, golf, gymnastics, water polo, soccer,
basketball, softball, swimming, track and field, lacrosse, cheerleading, and dance team)
● Work with the Athletic Director and the Human Resources Generalist to ensure that coaches are up to date with
all paperwork and on time in turning in timesheets
● Support the logistical details of the athletics’ program, including scheduling games and practices, locating and
facilities, and coordinating official assignments for home
● Support the various events within the Athletics Program including, but not limited to, seasonal sports award
nights and fundraising events
● Work with the Administrative Assistant for Student Life and Athletics to maintain athletics documentation
which include but are not limited to: eligibility lists, physicals, insurance forms, sports fees, concussion forms,
parents consent forms etc.
● Attend and supervise home athletic events and contests at various home sites and regularly attend practices
● Attend to the needs of student-athletes, coaches, and parents. Confer with counseling department when
needed
● Responsible for promoting respect, sportsmanship, and following CIF/CCS and Mercy rules to student/athletes,
coaches and parents
● Act as a liaison to leagues and outside organizations and attend meetings when needed
● Supports the marketing and communication needs of the school as they relate to Athletics
● Address parent concerns in a professional manner that upholds the mission of the school
● Respond to parent emails and messages in a timely manner
● Help facilitate communication between coaches and parents and maintain positive marketing materials
● Act as member of student life-related committees and groups within the school:
● Ensure quantity and quality of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and school apparel
● Act as liaison between staff and athletic facilities
● Other duties that may arise
Other duties as required, for example:
● Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to Catholic Education, the Mission and Values of Mercy High
School and the Sisters of Mercy.
● May be required to host physical conditioning as needed throughout employment period
● The employee must travel to athletic facilities and attend and supervise athletic events held outdoors in any
kind of weather.
● Must be willing to work a flexible schedule; substantial evening and weekend time required.
● The employee must be able to drive students /athletes in a nine passenger van to games or practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
● Observe and evaluate, both verbally and in writing, all coaches during practices and games.
● Communicate with coaches daily or semi weekly regarding needs of athletes, performance of teams,
transportation needs, etc.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In
addition the person should have the following experience and/or education to perform the job successfully:
● Knowledge and experience in a variety of sports.
● Knowledge and experience with finance and budgets.
● Prior coaching experience at the high school level is an important requirement.
● Experience with athletic management is encouraged.
Education and/or Experience
● B.A. or B.S. minimum (physical education or kinesiology is preferred), M.S. in Sports Management or similar
degree highly desirable
● 3-5 years experience in a school setting. Experience in an all-girls environment a plus
● Coaching experience preferred
● Athletic Training certification is preferred
● Previous experience as an athlete is required.
● Managerial experience is preferred
● CA Teaching Credential encouraged
Computer Skills
The knowledge of or ability to quickly acquire the skills to work with customized systems such as the internal
SASI System Database software used at this school; EXCEL Spreadsheet software, MS WORD Processing
software, the Internet, Email, Website design, and calendar creator.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required
CPR, First Aid/AED, DMV check, coaching certification and Lifeguard certification, ASEP certification required.
Ability to serve as ASEP instructor a plus.

travel from the main school building to Russell Hall which is downhill going; up hill returning.
The employee must be able to set up, take down, and move athletic equipment. The employee must be
physically able to coach. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs while
performing his/her duties. The employee must be able to use a ladder to move equipment and supplies.

Compensation: Salary range $67,000-80,000, based on experience.
