Middle School Science Teacher (Full-Time)
Position Overview:
Lumen Gentium Academy and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School seek a dynamic, mission-driven Middle School Science Teacher to join our faculty full-time. The ideal candidate will cultivate wonder in the natural world and equip students with the habits of inquiry, observation, and reasoning appropriate to a classical liberal arts education. This teacher will lead students to discover the intelligibility of creation and foster reverence for the order embedded in the physical universe.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach science courses for grades 6–8, including general science, life science, earth science, and introductory physical science or physics.
Design and deliver lessons grounded in classical pedagogy and inquiry-based learning, with an emphasis on observation, experimentation, and scientific reasoning.
Integrate science instruction with the broader classical and Catholic vision of reality, showing how truth in the natural world reflects the wisdom of the Creator.
Foster classroom discussions that are thoughtful, orderly, and aimed at student formation rather than mere information.
Create meaningful assessments aligned with a classical model — oral and written narration, laboratory work, short essays, and Socratic engagement.
Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate science into a broader liberal arts framework.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, liberal arts, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
A deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic teaching and classical education.
Previous teaching experience preferred; openness to mentorship and ongoing formation essential.
Ability to manage a middle school classroom with joy, order, and moral clarity.
Cultural Expectations:
Embody the mission of the school by modeling virtue and intellectual curiosity.
Participate actively in faculty formation and spiritual life of the school community.
Encourage students to see their study of science as part of their vocation to know and love God.
