Lansing Catholic High School is looking to hire an Academic and College Advisor for the 2025-26 school year. The position will include advising students on academic affairs, especially college plans and readiness, course selection, and pathways to success inside and outside of the classroom. Primary Responsibilities
- Counsel students and families in grades 9–12 on academic planning, college selection, application processes, financial aid, scholarships, and standardized testing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college admissions trends, testing policies, and financial aid procedures.
- Coordinate and lead college planning events such as college fairs, financial aid nights, and college/career information sessions.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the school and college admissions offices; organize visits from college representatives.
- Assist students with the preparation of college application materials, including essays and resumes.
- Work collaboratively with school counselors, teachers, and the theology department to integrate the Catholic understanding of vocation into the college planning process.
- Maintain accurate records of student advising sessions, applications, acceptances, and scholarships.
- Guide students toward a wide range of post-secondary options, including four-year universities, community colleges, trade schools, military service, and religious vocations.
- Encourage students to pursue institutions that align with their academic, personal, and spiritual goals, including faithful Catholic colleges and universities when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field preferred.
Previous experience in college counseling, school counseling, or college admissions strongly preferred. - Understanding of and commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with college planning platforms (e.g., XELLO, SCOIR) and common application processes.
