Elementary Principal
In partnership with families, Holy Trinity Catholic School strives to prepare our students to be faith-filled leaders and life-long learners dedicated to serving the Church and community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Faith Development
• Promote the mission, vision, and values of Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School
• Model in word and action the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Administer the school according to Diocesan, pastorate, and local policies
• Provide leadership for achieving the goals of Catholic Liberal Education, focusing on students becoming critical thinkers and the curriculum around the foundational truths of the Church and that the student is a child of God
• Demonstrate Catholic philosophy of education
• Create a school culture that promotes the Catholic faith
• Maintain a collaborative relationship between the education program of the school and the parish
• Provide opportunities for liturgical expression and experience for staff and students, including weekly Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Adoration, and rosaries
• Provide opportunities for the practice of Christian service
• Maintain open channels for two-way communication with staff and other Catholic school administrators
• Show respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with others
• Provide opportunities and encourage personnel to grow in their faith
• Work in cooperation with Pastorate Priests, Pastorate Leadership Team, and staff
Faculty and Curriculum Development
• Facilitate hiring and assignment of teachers in accordance with Diocesan, pastorate, and state policies
• Provide orientation and ongoing professional development for faculty according to their needs
• Direct and involve the faculty in continuous school improvement, philosophy evaluation,
curriculum assessment, goal setting, and planning for instructional improvement
• Provide for supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of faculty and staff per policy
guidelines
• Assist the faculty in teaching from a Catholic Worldview throughout the curriculum
• Differentiate the curriculum to serve the scope of abilities, talents, interests, and needs of faculty and students
• Be familiar with all textbooks and instructional materials used throughout the school
• Assist teachers in the guidance, assessment, and analysis of student achievement
• Provide faculty with materials and resources necessary for their assigned tasks
• Conduct regular faculty meetings and provide an opportunity for faculty involvement in the agenda preparation
• Oversee the scheduling of classes and lesson planning by the teachers
Management of Facilities and Records
• Develop and communicate routine procedures for the operation of the school
• Publish rules, regulations, schedules, and procedures; be consistent in expectations regarding them
• Maintain discipline
• Unify expectations for high academic standards and rigor throughout the school
• Implement fire, tornado, health, and safety codes in the school and on the school grounds
• Require adequate maintenance and cleanliness of the school for the safety and well-being of the students
• Meet deadlines with official school reports and statistics as required by the State and Diocese
• Keep school files organized in a professional manner
• Maintain an up-to-date professional file on each teacher
• Be responsible for overseeing accurate and up-to-date cumulative and attendance records
• Work with the building and grounds committee regarding heating, cooling, building and parking lot maintenance, and repairs
• Continue to evaluate building safety – cameras, alarm systems, and secure entry
Parental Involvement and Public Relations
• Provide opportunities for regular conferences and meetings with parents and teachers
• Provide channels for parent awareness and discussion on curriculum and school policies
• Alert parents to the special needs and/or problems of their children
• Keep parents informed through weekly updates and/or newsletters
• Cooperate with and promote programs existing in and for the parish
• Professionally represent the school to outside agencies
• Develop and maintain public relations with and among appropriate stakeholders.
School Organization
• Meet regularly with the Advisory Committee, develop the agenda, provide summary reports, and include standing committee reports
• Work with Development Director to develop fundraising programs to support the school’s operating budget
• Prepare annual school budget with assistance from the Advisory Committee, Pastorate Business Manager, and pastor
• Support and promote the four pillars of our strategic plan: Financial Stability, Marketing and Public Relations, Faith Formation, and Service to Christ the Light of Nations pastorate.
• Oversee the hiring and transfer processes, performance management, payroll administration, and employment law compliance of all employees
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Essential Qualifications:
a) Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position
b) Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including the Catechism of the Catholic Church and without limitation, the ordinary magisterium of the successor of Peter.
c) Be an active and practicing Catholic in good standing that follows the Code of Ethical Standards for the Diocese of Sioux Falls (cf. Code of Ethical Standards Appendix JV), capable of serving as a spiritual leader of the school.
d) Demonstrates comfort and overall competency within a bi-lingual and multi-cultural environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Catholic Studies, Liberal Arts, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree in Catholic School Leadership or Educational Leadership is preferred.
• Experience in teaching and/or school administration is required with preference given to experience at the elementary level and Catholic School experience
• South Dakota principal certification or ability to obtain
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Be interested and willing to be involved in professional and spiritual growth that includes, but not limited to, attendance at Diocesan meetings and workshops, regional and national professional development opportunities.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
