Website Holy Family Academy Manchester, New Hampshire

Holy Family (Grades 7-12) is seeking a full-time Latin teacher to begin immediately.

At Holy Family Academy, whose north star is our Catholic identity, students learn Latin because it is the Church’s own language. As Pope St. John XXIII says in his encyclical Veterum sapiential, “Latin should be considered a treasure of incomparable excellence. … Thus the knowledge and use of this language, so intimately bound up with the Church’s life, is important not so much on cultural or literary grounds, as for religious reasons.” Therefore, the Latin program at HFA immerses students in the Vulgate Bible, liturgical texts, prayers, and the writing of giants such as St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine “for religious reasons.” Students thereby gain access to the Church’s storehouse of Latin treasures accumulated over millennia.

By translating sacred and venerable Latin texts, HFA students learn the nature of language while drinking from spiritual and theological wells.

The texbook is “Latin by the Natural Method.”
