Director of Religious Education
St. Mary, Help of Christians, located in charming Aiken, South Carolina, is a beautiful Catholic Parish that serves the families of Aiken. The community offers both a blessed sacramental life and a rich religious education program for all ages. The parish is in need of a servant’s heart for their Director of Religious Education position to continue the vital responsibility of educating the community in the Faith.
Position Summary: The Director of Religious Education for a Catholic Parish is responsible for the growth and management of the religious education program within the community. The right candidate will have experience with maintaining and organizing records of students as they move through the program. The right individual will also need to have experience with development and implementation of curriculum across multiple ages. The ability to organize retreats and guest speakers, as well as penance services and volunteer opportunities is also ideal. The ability to offer resources for individuals to foster religious education and practices within the home is also very important in this role. Moreover, the candidate will need to exude joy in their Faith to foster an environment that families want to be part of at St. Mary, Help of Christians.

Job Responsibilities:
CCD Director
Advertise and promote Faith Formation classes for children 4K through 6th grade.
Coordinate parish registration requirements with parish secretary.
Develop annual calendar and building space reservations for classes, retreats, parent meetings, sacraments and rehearsals.
Choose and order textbooks and catechist manuals.
Recruit and train volunteer catechists and encourage and record certification hours.
Recruit and train support staff: clerical and classroom aides.
Report all volunteers to Safe Environment Coordinator for screening.
Attend and promote diocesan meetings and retreats for catechist.
Coordinate with Youth Minister and School administration for sacramental preparation.
Be familiar with, and execute diocesan and parish policies regarding faith formation and sacrament preparation.
Monthly report to Pastor.
Safe Environment Coordinator
Maintain diocesan Safe Environment policies.
Be in frequent contact with parish groups to record and follow up with parish volunteers, i.e. catechists, aides
Coordinate with Safe Environment coordinator to provide annual Safe Environment lesson to children in Faith Formation.
Be familiar with, and execute diocesan and parish policies regarding Safe Environment protocols.
Adult Formation Coordinator
Develop and promote adult enrichment opportunities for parishioners.
Develop and promote Sacrament preparation for baptized Catholics.
Coordinate with Youth Minister regarding Confirmation policies.
Coordinate with Hispanic liaison to develop sacrament preparation classes for adults.
Maintain and promote subscriptions.
Monthly report to Pastor.
Order of Christian Initiation of Adults Director
Advertise, interview and meet with Inquirers into the Faith and ascertain their interest and needs, including baptismal status.
Coordinate building and rooms reserved and schedule catechetical sessions and Rites of Initiation or Continuing Conversion.
Be familiar with, and execute diocesan and parish policies regarding OCIA.
Coordinate calendar and Rites with Pastor and Worship Committee.
Monthly report to Pastor.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds (stocking cleaning supplies) and use of cleaning chemicals
Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and use of cleaning tools.
