Full-Time High School Humanities Teacher

Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri is a classical, Catholic, co-educational high school in Kansas City, Missouri. Our mission is to form joyful, generous, faithful Catholic leaders prepared for community life and mission in the modern world. We seek to do this by cultivating the minds and hearts of our students through a rigorous, integrated curriculum that fosters a love of truth, beauty, and goodness. We are seeking a talented and dynamic full time Humanities teachers to join our team starting in the 2024-25 academic year. Three to five years of teaching experience is preferred, as well as experience in and passion for Catholic classical education. The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academy participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body, and assist in leading spiritual retreats and school activities.

The ideal candidate will have:
● A bachelor’s degree or higher in humanities, liberal arts, or a related field..
● A strong commitment to the Catholic faith and the school’s mission and vision, and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium.
● A passion for teaching and learning in the classical tradition, using the Socratic method and primary sources.
● A proficiency in Latin and the ability to teach Latin at various levels.
● A familiarity with the works of G.K. Chesterton and other great authors of Western civilization.
● A willingness to collaborate with other teachers and staff in a professional and collegial manner.
● A flexibility and adaptability to the needs and challenges of a growing school.

The responsibilities of the humanities teacher will include:
● Teaching four or five sections of humanities courses, such as history, literature, philosophy, theology, or Latin, depending on the school’s needs and the teacher’s qualifications. Preference will be given to those who can also teach an entry level Math course.
● Preparing and delivering engaging and effective lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and standards.
● Assessing and grading students’ work and providing constructive feedback.
● Communicating with parents, students, and administrators about student progress and concerns.
● Participating in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
● Supporting the school’s culture of faith, virtue, and joy.
