Liberal Arts Teacher | Part-time

Chesterton Academy of St. John the Evangelist is a new classical high school in the Catholic tradition which plans to open in the 2024-2025 academic year in Charlottesville, Virginia, with an initial class composed of 9th and 10th graders.  We are looking for part-time teachers with a bachelor’s or master’s degree and a strong background in the liberal arts.  Five years or more of teaching experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to candidates with less.  Candidates should be able to teach in two or three of the following disciplines:  literature, philosophy, theology, Latin, history, science, mathematics, music, and art.  Salary commensurate with experience.

Faculty members must be practicing Catholics who are willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium.  The Catholicity of their approach to education should be evident in three respects:  in a belief in the objective validity of natural reason; in the estimation of reason as both supporting and pointing to faith; and in the recognition of the subordination of the light of reason to the light of Christ, who is the divine Wisdom of the Father in the love and unity of the Holy Spirit.

The first Chesterton Academy was founded in 2008 as a result of a grass-roots movement of parents.  Chesterton Academy of St. John the Evangelist offers a rigorous, integrated high school curriculum centered on the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.  Focusing on the classics, the school develops complete thinkers who learn to draw on faith and reason for the purpose of building a culture of life.
