Optional ICLE National Conference Experience

Don’t miss this exclusive addition to the 2019 National Conference experience! Join a limited group of fellow conference attendees for a special professional development experience at Folger Shakespeare Library on Wednesday afternoon. The experience has been built into the conference schedule so as not to conflict with other sessions (though Folger participants will miss the opportunity to attend 3:00 Mass).

From 3:00-4:20, participate in an interactive, hands-on, language-centered introduction to the Folger Method, which is essential for teaching Shakespeare and beneficial for all imaginative literature. On the first Elizabethan stage in North America, participants will practice the scaffolded sequence of techniques that students will use in class to befriend, understand, and interpret Shakespeare’s language. The workshop will include key resources on the Folger Method as well as copies of all activity handouts. From 4:20-4:45, enjoy a staff-guided tour of special areas of the Folger.

As an added benefit, all participants will receive a year’s Teacher Membership (usually $40/teacher) to the Folger Shakespeare Library, whose primary benefit is premium access to Forsooth!, Folger’s online home for teachers featuring 600+ downloadable resources, conversations among teachers from every state in the U.S., primary source images, and lots of live-streaming professional development throughout the year.

Transportation to the Folger Shakespeare Library from CUA will be provided. Return transportation will be the responsibility of participants, as the rest of Wednesday evening is open to allow exploration and enjoyment of Washington, D.C.
