St. Mary’s Catholic School  is seeking an experienced, energetic, and caring individual to serve as the Lead Teacher for our school in the Children’s House for the 24-25 academic year.

The Lead Teacher oversees all aspects of classroom operation. They plan and implement a curriculum for the children in their class and review and revise the curriculum as necessary. The Lead Teacher must be excellent in preparing the environment, taking overall responsibility for creating an orderly, safe, appropriately challenging, and dynamic environment for all children in the class.

An understanding, respect for, and love of children is essential in our child-centered environment. In addition, a deep understanding of Montessori philosophy and child development are critical components, along with a disposition to being a lifelong learner. The Lead Teacher also implements the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) in Level 1 as integrated into the classroom daily environment. The Lead Teacher oversees the observation of children’s development and the collection of records to assess each child’s progress.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Montessori certification through either AMS or AMICGS Level 1 certification or openness to getting this certification
Exceptional knowledge of the Montessori philosophy and approach to education
Experience as a Montessori teacher (at least 5 years preferable)
Exceptional leadership abilities and communication skills


Observe, guide, supervise, and assess children while they learn in the classroom environmentDevelop lesson plans and independent learning exercises as well as curricula and methods that meet each child’s individual needs, including CGS curriculum and presentations as part of the daily learning environment.

Maintain a thorough record keeping system to accurately note and assess the progress of each child with Transparent Classroom, as well as the class as a whole.

Conduct parent/teacher conferences (twice a year)

Compose written child progress reports (twice a year)

Create weekly classroom newsletters

Participate in the coordination in key classroom events throughout the year, including Parent Orientation Night, Parent Montessori Night, and Open Houses.

Actively participate in staff meetings, professional development classes and school-wide events.

Maintaining required Montessori certification and any other licenses that one holds.

Maintain an attitude of professionalism at all times in timeliness, attire, and demeanor.
